True, but not quite how Biden means it.
Former Vice President Joe Biden hailed the announcement of a deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates to establish formal diplomatic ties, saying the move was the culmination of “efforts of multiple administrations.”
“I personally spent time with leaders of both Israel and the UAE during our administration building the case for cooperation and broader engagement and the benefits it could deliver to both nations, and I am gratified by today’s announcement,” Biden said.
“The coming together of Israel and Arab states builds on the efforts of multiple administrations to foster a broader Arab-Israeli opening, including the efforts of the Obama-Biden administration to build on the Arab Peace Initiative,” he added.
The basis for the UAE-Israel relationship isn’t negotiations, diplomacy, or lectures about international cooperation, it’s the Obama-Biden administration and its support for
1. Iran
2. The Muslim Brotherhood
Specifically, the UAE and the Saudis reacted to Obama’s backing for Iran and the Muslim Brotherhood, and alienation of Israel, by building bridges.
If the UAE didn’t think that Biden had a decent chance of winning, the announced agreement might not have even happened.
So yes, Biden gets some of the credit. In the way that Black Lives Matter rioters get some of the credit for having Latin Kings and militia members team up to fight them.
The Obama-Biden administration gave the UAE and Israel common enemies to fight. Including Biden.
That’s the only kind of diplomacy that works.
