Rome wasn’t burned in a day. Neither were America’s borders. It’ll take a few days. At least.
As thousands of Honduran migrants make their way to the U.S. border, the incoming Biden administration, just days from taking office, has a message: Don’t come now.
Come, obviously. Biden Inc. is planning a sweeping amnesty for illegal aliens with a pathway to citizenship intended to get them voting Democrat ASAP.
But there’s a backlog.
Biden intends to shut down third-country asylum processing, the biggest immigration win of the Trump administration, and get all the illegals in. But, at least in the short term, there’s a difference between the illegal aliens crossing the border or applying for refugee status.
If would-be emigrants from Central America perceive that now is the time to travel to the U.S., the southern border could quickly be overwhelmed before systems are put in place to handle the influx.
And they will be. The word is out.
An obvious mess on the border might make for some negative publicity and shift attention from the current claim of a massive conservative threat to America.
A senior Biden transition team official said the perception that the Biden administration will be able to allow all arriving asylum seekers to enter the U.S. to make their claim on day one is false.
“The situation at the border isn’t going to be transformed overnight,” the transition official told NBC News in an exclusive interview.
But the official declined to say when asylum seekers might be able to come to the U.S. and whether they will be detained as they await a court hearing.
They can come anytime they want. And no, they obviously won’t be detained. Instead, just like Obama, agents will become coyotes transporting illegals into this country and then putting them on buses to go stay with their families or traffickers.
Whether or not asylum claims will be processed is only going to matter to a limited percentage of the illegal aliens.
Asylum requests were effective under President Trump because the United States was legally obligated by treaty to process them. There’s no real reason to do the asylum requests at the border when the illegals can just cross the border.
A percentage of the illegal migrants just want to enter the country to work. And even those who don’t, know that they’ll be allowed to apply for asylum in-country and be tracked for legal status based on the promises of Joe Biden.
So why bother with border asylum applications?
Get ready to see Texas border counties being overwhelmed again.
The official said migrants attempting to cross into the U.S. to claim asylum in the first few weeks of the new administration “need to understand they’re not going to be able to come into the United States immediately.”
… immediately. They might have to wait a little bit.
The official also emphasized that any immigration legislation proposed by the Biden administration will be for undocumented immigrants already living in the U.S., not those who are considering arriving now.
At least the anonymous Bidenite has a sense of humor.
Illegal alien amnesty will be for any illegal alien who wants to come and claim the status. There will be no checks as to when the illegal alien arrived in America. These are statements meant for public consumption.
But, better yet, announcing to incoming illegal aliens that amnesty will be granted to illegals already in this country, gives them every incentive to rush to make it in.
