“We judge the virus was not developed as a biological weapon. Most agencies also assess with low confidence that SARS-CoV-2 probably was not genetically engineered; however, two agencies believe there was not sufficient evidence to make an assessment either way. Finally, the IC assesses China’s officials did not have foreknowledge of the virus before the initial outbreak of COVID-19 emerged.”
That is from a U.S intelligence community report released on August 27. Back in May, Biden tasked intel bosses to “redouble” their efforts to find the origin of the COVID-19 virus. At that time, the intel community “coalesced around two likely scenarios but has not reached a definitive conclusion on this question.” On that front the new report marks no change but still deserves attention for what it ignores. Consider, for example, Israel’s intelligence on the biological weapon question.
In January 2020, Dr. Dany Shoham, an expert on chemical and biological weapons, authored “China and Viruses: The Case of Dr. Xiangguo Qiu.” According to Shoham, who earned a PhD in medical microbiology from Tel Aviv University, the Chinese national Qiu transferred a cargo of deadly pathogens, including the Ebola and Henipah viruses, from Canada’s National Micobiology Lab (NML) to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV).
China and Viruses also tracked Dr. Qiu’s close ties with four facilities believed to be involved in Chinese biological weapons development: the Institute of Military Veterinary, Academy of Military Medical Sciences, Changchun; Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Chengdu Military Region; Wuhan Institute of Virology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hubei; and the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in Beijing.
Contrary to the U.S. intel report, China did have prior knowledge of the virus, and the report’s indecision on the biological weapon issue seems to be deliberate ignorance. Consider also the question of genetic engineering.
Dr. Steven Quay earned his MD and PhD at the University of Michigan and spent a decade on the medical faculty at Stanford. In COVID-19 samples uploaded by scientists at the WIV shortly after China informed the World Health Organization about the outbreak, Dr. Quay found “genetic manipulation of the Nipah virus, which is more lethal than Ebola.” Both viruses were in the cargo of pathogens delivered to the WIV by Dr. Qiu.
Dr. Quay also co-authored, “The Science Suggests a Wuhan Lab Leak,” noting that the COVID-19 pathogen has a genetic footprint never observed in a natural coronavirus. “In gain-of-function research, a microbiologist can increase the lethality of a coronavirus enormously by splicing a special sequence into its genome at a prime location,” Dr. Quay and co-author Richard Muller explained. “Doing this leaves no trace of manipulation. But it alters the virus spike protein, rendering it easier for the virus to inject genetic material into the victim cell.” The result of similar experiments “has always been supercharged viruses.”
When Biden ordered U.S. Intel agencies to redouble their efforts, Angelo Codevilla predicted “zero” chance that the ensuing report would mention gain-of-function research which makes viruses more lethal and transmissible. True to form, the report fails to mention gain-of-function research, already a matter of record.
Chief White House medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) since 1984, funded the Wuhan Institute of Virology to conduct gain-of-function research, once banned in the United States. Dr. Fauci initially opposed President Trump’s ban on travel from China and maintained the theory that the virus that causes COVID-19 developed naturally in the wild. When scientists found evidence that the virus had indeed been engineered, the NIAID boss pressured them to change their view.
Centers for Disease Control (CDC) director Dr. Robert Redfield believed “the most likely etiology of this pathology in Wuhan was from a laboratory. You know, escaped.” For holding that view, Dr. Redfield began to receive death threats. As he told reporters in March of 2020, “I was threatened and ostracized because I proposed another hypothesis.” If that came to the attention of Biden intel bosses, nothing emerged in the report. Neither did the material on biological weapons, genetic manipulation, and gain-of-function research already in the record.
The vaunted intel community lacks assets, access, and operational security in China, according to Angelo Codevilla, a former staffer with the Senate Intelligence Committee. So no surprise that the report turned out a predictable coverup, and support for Biden’s belief that the Chinese Communists are “not bad folks.”
For all its money and assets, the intelligence community failed to stop the massive terrorist attack of September 11, 2001. During the administration of President Donald Trump, the intelligence community confirmed its role as partisan force. Under the Biden Junta, the intel agencies parrot the talking points of China and Dr. Anthony Fauci, whose bio shows no advanced degrees in molecular biology or biochemistry.
Under the Biden Junta, the U.S. intel community is a wholly owned subsidiary of Dr. Fauci’s white coat supremacy regime. In this arrangement, unelected bureaucrats trample constitutional rights and keep the people in fear and uncertainty. Like Madame de Montpellier in The Day of the Jackal, people across America should be in no doubt as to the seriousness of their position.
