“The Second Amendment is not absolute. When it was passed you couldn’t own a cannon, you couldn’t own certain kinds of weapons. There’s just always been limitations, Biden insisted, during remarks exploiting the mass shooting in Texas.
The thing about Biden is that he tells the same lies, gets called on it, and does it again.
He does it when talking about his own made-up biography and when discussing America.
Biden’s dumb cannon line has been repeatedly fact-checked to death even by mainstream media outlets.
Here’s Glenn Kessler at the Washington Post dealing with this same Biden line last year.
“And I might add: The Second Amendment, from the day it was passed, limited the type of people who could own a gun and what type of weapon you could own. You couldn’t buy a cannon.”
As Kessler noted then, In this case, he repeated a claim — that Americans were prohibited from owning cannons — that has already been fact-checked as false when he made it during the presidential campaign.
Variations of this same lie had already been fact-checked by lefty fact-checkers like Politifact. That’s how completely groundless it is.
And yet it says something that Biden and, quite likely, his staffers won’t stop pushing the same lie. And that there’s no actual accountability for it. When the media disagreed with something Trump said, they made a spectacle of it, they would assemble lists of what they claimed were lies and declared that political norms were being violated.
Nothing like that for Biden, who we’re told never lies, just misspeaks. Again and again and again.
