“War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.”
Also, in breaking news from the WaPo Amazon Post, Joe Biden has redefined bipartisanship to mean one-party rule. It’s not a joke. It’s strength.
To hear President Biden and his team tell it, a successful bipartisan bill need not attract a single Republican vote.
It’s a bipartisan bill if some person who is a registered Republican, somewhere, supports it.
“If you looked up ‘bipartisan’ in the dictionary, I think it would say support from Republicans and Democrats,” said Anita Dunn, a senior Biden adviser. “It doesn’t say the Republicans have to be in Congress.”
If you looked up “dishonest idiot” in the dictionary, the entire junk heap of the Obama administration would be there. And if you looked up Dunn and Harvey Weinstein… but that’s another story.
Two parties mean elected officials from both parties. If you’re not working together with elected officials from the other party, it’s not bipartisan.
Claiming that the polls, which have been routinely rigged and are being run by partisan media outlets on your side, give you bipartisan support, is rampantly dishonest nonsense.
The easy test of this is whether Democrats would claim that there was a multiracial governing coalition if it included zero minorities, but claimed political support from minorities.
I know, that’s somehow going to be different. But changing definitions has consequences.
Rahm Emanuel, the former mayor of Chicago and chief of staff to former president Barack Obama, put it bluntly: “What’s become crystal clear is that Biden has redefined bipartisan.”
“It isn’t how many Republicans I’ve got,” Emanuel added. “It’s about how many Republican voters or mayors and governors can I get to support my stuff. And Washington is slow to catch up to the Biden definition.”
It’s also slow to catch up to the Biden definition of lying dog-faced pony soldier and whatever other malarkey comes out of his demented mouth.
But if the Democrats want to go with this double standard, Trump’s COVID response had bipartisan support because Democrat mayors and governors signed on.
If the new bipartisan standard is getting state officials to sign on because they want the cash, then everything is bipartisan.
But that has nothing to do with bipartisan governance.
But many Republicans — and some moderate Democrats, such as Sen. Joe Manchin III of West Virginia — have raised objections to that approach, calling on Biden to adopt a more traditional definition of bipartisanship.
Or, you know, actual bipartisanship. Instead of defining partisan rule as bipartisanship.
Biden also ran promising to be the “president for all Americans,” and he can best do that by focusing on the country at large rather than just 100 senators and 435 House members in the nation’s capital, aides say.
Americans are governed through their elected officials.
Biden is proposing to be the King of America by claiming to represent all Americans, while ignoring the officials they elected to represent them.
That’s not democracy, it’s monarchy. It didn’t work out so well when King George III tried it.
“The president really believes in a bipartisan approach, and it’s one of the reasons that I’m constantly having conversations with members of Congress on both sides of the aisle, gathering ideas,” Buttigieg said recently on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “But the president also has a clear vision, and as he said, this has to get done. . . . And we can’t let politics slow this down to where it doesn’t actually happen.”
This is a Cuomo argument. Claiming absolute power and then dismissing the legislative process and the rule of law as just “politics”.
It didn’t work out well for Cuomo either.
“I would like Republican — elected Republican — support,” Biden said. “But what I have now is, I have electoral support from Republican voters. Republican voters agree with what I’m doing.”
Biden has at times overstated the level of GOP support for his policies. Across five national polls since late February, for example, between 54 percent and 73 percent of Republicans opposed the $1.9 trillion stimulus package.
It’s not working out well for Biden either.
