What economy? Is there anything left to crash?
This is like an arsonist setting a house on fire and then warning that if someone calls the fire brigade, they’ll just wreck the place.
Biden seized on Republican congressional leaders statements that they may refuse to approve an increase in the U.S. debt limit next year, which could throw the United States into default unless they can scale back some of Biden’s spending priorities.
“Republicans are determined to hold the economy hostage,” said Biden. “There is nothing that would create more chaos … Republicans are going to crash the economy.
What does this argument really tell us?
Biden and the Dems expect to lose the House, the Senate or both to Republicans and they’re preparing the ground for a debt limit fight. That’s an extraordinary pullback now that a red wave is starting to look likely again. Democrats by now have an easy three-step plan for winning debt limit fights. Beating Republicans at the debt limit is so easy even Biden could do it.
As an election closing argument, “Republicans are going to crash the economy” would work better if we were facing decline or instability, but not a catastrophe. When people can’t afford to buy food and are losing their retirement savings, threatening them with the opposition party doesn’t work so well.
But this isn’t even an election argument, it’s a debt limit argument. Biden and his people are preparing to muscle the opposition in the court of public opinion, blaming them for his economic disasters yet to come while accepting that they’re going to lose the midterms.

What I’ve been wondering, can a strong natural economy, like California, survive a disastrous government? There is a kind of split going on, between the natural economy and the government. The people disregarding the government as much as possible.
Chief Mac says
California doesn’t have a strong economy at all. They are broke and have been for the last 20 years now.
Creative accounting does not make it so. The state owns their own pension fund over $1 Trillion, businesses and taxpayers are fleeing. All they have left is welfare recipients and illegal aliens
Algorithmic Analyst says
That’s what I mean by disastrous government. Plus government not improving the water infrastructure, things like that.

To call current economic conditions in the United States “a catastrophe” is nothing but fear-mongering propaganda. Inflation is high and there is fear of a mild recession, true. But the US economy is strong (as Mr. Greenfield knows), and much stronger than it was in 2008 or even in 2021.
Mr. Greenfield has no respect for, nor interest in, the basic principles of journalistic integrity. You may enjoy reading him (I do. He’s good for a laugh). But he is a liar.
Ugly Sid says
Oh, and we have your word on that.
That settles it. Proof that Greenfield lacks integrity. Right there in black and white.
All that fine work done on America’s behalf and Republicans are going to flush it and pretend Biden is somehow culpable. It’s obvious now.
Thanks for the eye opener.

you’ve already lost the public which knows what time it is when they go to the supermarket and can’t afford their groceries, when they can’t afford to drive or move
read the polls, your lies are failing, badly

Your stupid lies are as bad as Alzheimer Joe’s. They’re the opposite of the truth. Flat out insane. You HAVE to be mentally retarded to write what you did.

Yeah, he’s one of the worst trolls here.

Wow those must be some really strong drugs you are taking

He’s puffing crack. Butt crack.

A reliable guide to this being the Dem’s strategy is faux-Republican Jennifer Rubin’s recent Washington Post column which said that Republicans will wreck the economy if they win the mid-terms. They know the Republicans will win and that every economist not employed by the White House believes we will be in a recession in 2023. So they are preparing to blame it on the Republicans rather than acknowledge any of their own serious ecpnomic mistakes over the past two years and do anything to correct them. Unfortunately typical of the Dems.
Daniel Greenfield says
exactly
the gameplan will be to stage fights over everything and blame the economy on Republicans
it’s the Obama strategy and it didn’t work very well since the public tends to blame the guy in the White House, but this will be the media narrative

When it comes to getting and keeping an economy going, history is truely against the democrats. In “92,” the democrats inherited a very hot economy from the Regen/Bush years, by 2000 that hot economy was in the dump. The economy was blazing under Trump, until the covid thing was blown up to a political grab for power by the left, it has been all the democrats have had to hold onto since they cheated their way into power by massive lies about how they could bring the country out of covid and into utopia by just being in power. We all now see the lie of utopia being the same thing that took the soviet union down.
They can’t build on what they have been given let alone build something they have no knowledge of in the first place. They do best at tearing down, they have proven time and time again they can’t build anything from scratch, because scratch is all they will have left if they succeed at tearing down the US like they want to do.
Daniel Greenfield says
socialists don’t want to build an economy, they want to pillage it and destroy it to replace it with state control
Algorithmic Analyst says
Exactly. Thanks Daniel!
DENNIS J CAMPBELL says
They will wreck it just like Trump did, when inflation was at 1%, the economy was steadily growing, black employment was at an all-time high, we were energy-independent, small businesses were flourishing…please wreck it again!

Just like Donald J Trump??????????????????
