Democrats want to harvest Latino votes to flip Florida. That’s really their only hope.
Unfortunately Florida Latinos have a large refugee population. And they’re refugee from the Marxist regimes that white lefty elites love almost as much as Bernie Sanders loves breadlines for the masses. Democrats had been hoping that generational shifts would make Cubans less relevant, but as their Marxist allies in Venezuela and elsewhere in the region keep creating new refugees, and white lefty elites insist on giving the Marxist regimes and terror groups big hugs, the prospect of flipping Florida moves further into the distance.
This time out the problem isn’t Cuba, it’s Colombia.
As I wrote yesterday, Biden had made the decision to take the FARC narco-terrorists who had kidnaped Americans off the terror list so he can fund them.
This began with Obama-Kerry’s outreach to terrorists wanted by the United States government.
Stop by your local post office and you might just see a poster of Rodrigo “Timochenko” Londono hanging next to the Most Wanted posters of bank robbers and fugitives. The State Department is offering a $5 million reward for information about the Communist terrorist leader.
But all the State Department had to do was ask Secretary of State Kerry. Obama did the wave with the Cuban dictator and Kerry met with Timochenko , the leader of FARC, a Marxist terrorist organization that appears on his own department’s list of foreign terrorist organizations a little above Al Qaeda.
Timochenko is a Communist who was trained at the USSR’s infamous Patrice Lumumba University. The State Department accuses him of ordering the kidnapping of Americans and responsibility for much of the cocaine that is smuggled into the United States. But none of that bothered Kerry who accepted a signed copy of a memoir by the terror group’s former leader which was addressed to “Senor” Kerry.
Two of the men sitting opposite John Kerry had been convicted of forcing children to join the terror group as soldiers and sex slaves. FARC runs on thousands of child soldiers and sex slaves. Little girls as young as 7 and 9 were brought into the terror group whose fronts have a “quota” of women to fill. Families that refuse to turn over their daughters to FARC have been massacred as a warning to others.
Rape is a typical tactic for the military arm of the Colombian Communist Party. Children were seized from families. Others were “bought” from kidnappers operating in cities. Girls who became pregnant had their children forcibly aborted so the babies wouldn’t interfere with their job of servicing male fighters who protected the narcotics trade while keeping the dream of a Communist dictatorship alive.
But Kerry’s new Communist narcoterrorist chums also had American blood on their hands.
“Take them across the river and burn them.” That was how the lives of three left-wing American environmental activists had ended in the spring of 1999. Their killers were members of the FARC Marxist terror group. The victims were shot in the face after being tortured.
Biden isn’t just taking FARC off the terror list. He’s plotting to fund them.
The administration is also exploring whether to list militant opponents of former FARC rebels on the list of terrorist organizations instead, the officials said.
By dropping the group’s terrorist designation, the U.S. can fund programs in Colombia in which former rebels participate, such as replacing crops used to make cocaine with legal products.
This is a typical wish list for America’s new Communist regime. And Colombians in Florida are unhappy.
The Biden administration’s plan to remove a Colombian rebel group from a list of foreign terrorist organizations barely caused a ripple outside Washington when the news broke this week.
But in Florida, home to an estimated 150,000 Colombian American voters, it’s a different story. Biden’s policy is reverberating loudly among Democrats, leading some of the state’s top elected officials, strategists and activists to rail against the decision.
“This is terrible. It’s bad policy. It’s bad politics,” said Florida state Sen. Annette Taddeo, a Democratic gubernatorial candidate who’s Colombian American.
Calling the news “outrageous,” Taddeo criticized the Biden administration on Twitter and recounted how she fled her home country at the age of 17 “because of the Marxist terrorist organization, FARC, a group of militias who kidnapped my father who was a WWII American fighter pilot.”
Stories like Taddeo’s aren’t rare in Miami-Dade, the state’s most populous county. It’s home to a huge concentration of Hispanic voters and Latin American exiles who fled leftist violence or dictatorships in Colombia, Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela and found a common political bond in Florida.
“These were terrorists, murderers,” Taddeo said.
And Taddeo is the candidate of a party that has a history of supporting Marxist terrorists and murderers from Castro to Hugo Chavez to FARC.
Former Gov. Charlie Crist, now a congressman who is also running in the Democratic gubernatorial primary, expressed concern for the decision, saying the FARC “caused decades of war and death — they’ve earned their designation.”
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, a Democrat, called on the administration to reconsider and “double down to reject the extremist communist agenda that destroyed nations like Venezuela.”
How can the Democrats reject their own extremist Communist agenda?
