I sympathize with the desire to “do something for Haiti.” But I haven’t the faintest idea what that is. Neither (if they’re honest) does anyone else.
Haitians have to figure out what to do about their own country. We can’t fix it or nation-build it for them.
We tried doing that and these are the results as I wrote in “America Should Stay Out of Haiti”.
The $100 million in security assistance announced by Biden is on top of the $312 million that we already provided to fund, train and arm Haiti’s police forces over the last decade and a half.
And with over $400 million in backing, Haiti’s police still can’t compete with gang members. But many of the gang members were once the police officers whom we helped to train.
Jimmy “Barbeque” Cherizier, the leader of the G9 gang which controls the streets and is the most powerful man in Haiti, was a former police officer who had been accused of playing a role in the murder, rape and arsons that burned 400 homes and killed 70 people.
So, it’s time for more “military assistance”.
The Biden administration has approved a $60 million military aid package to help Haiti quell violent gangs wreaking havoc in the country, according to documents obtained by POLITICO.
The package, the second the U.S. has approved for the Haiti crisis this year, includes mostly small arms but also some armored vehicles. The notification lists at least 80 Humvees, 35 MaxxPro infantry carriers, sniper rifles, riot control gear, firearms, ammunition and surveillance drones.
Maybe just stop.
We’re providing some heavy stuff to a corrupt place that doesn’t have a functioning government and whose police and military turn into gangs run by warlords.
Has no one read this book before?
Have we forgotten how it ends?
There’s no plan here beyond shipping equipment and weapons, and maybe offering some training to “professionalize” Haiti’s military and police. How did that work out in Afghanistan and the Palestinian Authority, not to mention in Haiti before?
What’s the definition of insanity again?

What kind of government does a low IQ population need?
Jeff Bargholz says
They should aspire to a baboon or gorilla troop. At least those are functional.

Haiti is unfixable. Take the hint from the Dominican Republic which is spending a lot of money building a wall on the their border.

Hm. Fires in the streets. Unemployed people milling around doing absolutely nothing. Filth and squalor. Haiti looks like a more clean and sanitary version of Gaza.
