Joe Biden finally left his rec room to go out and do a political event while virtue signaling his social distancing.
Biden, the prospective Democratic presidential nominee, and his wife, Jill, both wearing black masks, laid a wreath of white roses at a memorial for veterans of World War II and the Korean War.
“It feels good to be out of my house,” Biden told reporters, his speech slightly muffled by the mask. Maintaining his distance, he saluted about a dozen veterans and other onlookers standing a few yards away and thanked them for their service.
You can practically see the media patting him on the head. Good boy, good boy.
Biden’s big show took place in New Castle County which has 2,845 coronavirus cases in a population of 558,753. That’s 0.5%. There have been around 100+ deaths. It’s not exactly New York City.
Why carry on the routine with the masks?
If Biden wanted to do some useful social distancing, he would have driven himself and his wife. (I assume he can still drive.) Dispensed with having Secret Service agents by his side. (It’s a pretty safe bet that no assassins are lurking among the graves). And dispensed with the useless masks.
Instead he’s got Secret Service agents at his side (at which point the masks don’t help) and journalists out taking photos of him wearing a mask.
It’s a farce. But that describes both lockdown culture and the Biden campaign.
