Former Vice President Joe Biden, a gaffe-prone egomaniacal plagiarist and serial groper who has been looking in the mirror throughout his decades as a professional politician and seeing a president looking back, finally announced he was running for president this week for the fourth time
Biden enters the ridiculously crowded race for the Democrats’ presidential nod as the front-runner with huge name-recognition.
He made the announcement in a video posted online that is centered on a vicious lie the Left has been hurling at President Donald Trump for nearly two years.
In the video Biden refers to the violence at the ill-fated “Unite the Right” rally that took place in Charlottesville, Virginia, on August 12, 2017. Although the rally attracted neo-Nazis, many non-Nazis attended to protest the proposal to remove a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee from a nearby park.
There was violence. One counter-protester died after neo-Nazi James Alex Fields ran her over with a car. Antifa and related groups showed up armed with baseball bats and clubs and fought with other attendees, as President Trump acknowledged.
In the announcement Biden lies about President Trump’s reaction to the rally, while at the same time praising Antifa for having “the courage to stand” against hate.
He said there were, quote, some very fine people on both sides. Very fine people on both sides? With those words the president of the United States assigned a moral equivalence between those spreading hate and those with the courage to stand against it. And in that moment I knew the threat to this nation was unlike any I had ever see in my lifetime … We are in the battle for the soul of this nation.
I believe history will look back on four years of this president and all he embraces as an aberrant moment in time. But if we give Donald Trump eight years in the White House he will forever and fundamentally alter the character of this nation, who we are, and I cannot stand by and watch that happen.
The core values of this nation, our standing in the world, our very democracy, everything that has made America America is at stake. That’s why today I’m announcing my candidacy for president of the United States.
Except Trump didn’t quite say what Biden claims.
After Charlottesville, Trump said –correctly— “I think there is blame on both sides” and that “many sides” were to blame.
“What about the ‘alt-left’ that came charging at, as you say, the ‘alt-right,’ do they have any semblance of guilt?” Trump said. “What about the fact they came charging with clubs in hands, swinging clubs, do they have any problem? I think they do.”
He added: “You had a group on one side that was bad and you had a group on the other side that was also very violent. Nobody wants to say it, but I will say it right now.”
Taking down statues is a bad idea, Trump said. Removing a Robert E. Lee statue could lead to efforts to remove statues of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, he said.
“You are changing history, you are changing culture,” Trump said. “You know, you really do have to ask yourself, where does it stop?”
Trump also said there were some “very bad people” on both sides in Charlottesville but that some who were protesting the removal of the Lee statue were “fine people,” a statement that is no doubt true.
The announcement was calculated to appeal to the new center of gravity in the Democratic Party – the energized small-c communist Left represented by people like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).
Biden’s campaign is already trying to portray him as the new Obama.
A mass fundraising email sent out yesterday by his campaign posts a quotation of his beside a closeup of Biden looking up to the right and off-camera, like he’s some kind of visionary statesman casting his eyes on America’s future.
“Change occurs because the conscience of a country begins to rise up and demand — demand change,” reads the quote.
Then the copy switches to Trump mode, declaring: “Let’s do this and shock the world. – Biden for President[.]”
“This isn’t the time to be complacent. If you are ready to fight for the soul of this nation, you can start by donating to elect Joe Biden by clicking the button below.”
The schizophrenic tone of the email suggests a nascent campaign already in chaos.
Late last month Biden came under fire for being the most hands-on vice president the United States has ever seen.
After decades of snuggling up to, hugging, sniffing, and kissing unsuspecting, helpless women of all ages, women began to go public with stories about the touchy-feely 76-year-old politician. Lucy Flores, the Democrats’ nominee for lieutenant governor of Nevada five years ago, got the ball rolling in an essay March 29 at The Cut detailing how she endured undesired touching by Biden who had come to her campaign event to lend a hand.
Recent revelations about his evolving views on social issues won’t help Biden.
For example, Biden said in 1973 that gays were “security risks.” He voted in favor of the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, which defined marriage as between a man and a woman. By 2007, Biden was in favor of civil unions but not same-sex marriages.
The Justice Democrats, the extreme-left political action committee that helped to elect Reps. Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), and Rashida Talib (D-Mich.), and champions Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, tuition-free college, and ending incarceration and deportation, is already attacking Biden.
To these people, who represent the emerging dominant wing of the Democratic Party, Biden is a boring has-been who isn’t radical enough.
“The old guard of the Democratic Party failed to stop Trump, and they can’t be counted on to lead the fight against his divide-and-conquer politics today. The party needs new leadership with a bold vision capable of energizing voters in the Democratic base who stayed home in 2016[,]” the PAC tweeted.
“While we’re going to support the Democratic nominee, we can’t let a so-called ‘centrist’ like Joe Biden divide the Democratic Party and turn it into the party of ‘No, we can’t,’” the Twitter thread continued.
“Joe Biden stands in near complete opposition to where the center of energy is in the Democratic Party today. Democrats are increasingly uniting around progressive populist policies like Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, free college, rejecting corporate money … and ending mass incarceration and deportation. We don’t need someone who voted for the Iraq War, for mass incarceration, and for the Bankruptcy Reform Act while voting against gay marriage, reproductive rights, and school desegregation.”
“Life expectancy has decreased for a third straight year in our country. We need Democrats who will fight racism and inequality with solutions that match the scale of the crises we’re facing — not piecemeal compromises with corporate America and the party of Donald Trump.”
Biden knows he’s got a tough fight ahead and he’s staffing up. His campaign just hired SKDKnickerbocker managing director Anita Dunn, a Mao idolator who worked as President Obama’s White House communications director. Dunn worked as a consultant providing damage-control advice to disgraced Hollywood executive and all-around pervert Harvey Weinstein.
Is there enough time before the primaries early next year for Biden to beg for forgiveness for policies that seemed mainstream to many decades ago?
How many apology tours will it take?
