Russia might be willing to discuss a potential prisoner swap with the U.S. involving jailed Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich after his trial on espionage charges, a top Russian diplomat said Thursday.
Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told state news agency Tass that talks about a possible exchange could take place through a dedicated channel that Russian and U.S. security agencies established for such purposes.
Now the message is being repeated.
Russia’s foreign minister, Sergey V. Lavrov, hinted on Tuesday at the possibility of a prisoner swap involving two Americans detained in Russia, Paul Whelan and the Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich.
“This is work that is not public in nature and publicity here will only complicate the process,” Mr. Lavrov said at the U.N., where Russia is wrapping up a contentious monthlong stint as president of the Security Council, a rotating position.
What that means is a deal is already being negotiated. And if the Russians don’t get whichever criminal, spy or arms deal released from custody this time… they just need to take another American hostage.
Biden has endangered all Americans working or traveling through totalitarian nations. All so his base could get their Brittney Griner moment.
Every America abroad has become a potential hostage.

This was my first thought the moment I heard Russia had taken him.
My second thought was: Should he not have known better than to be there to get taken?
I blame the victim: at some point, people need to get it through their thick heads that going to Russia could be bad for your health.
Russia should concentrate on woke prisoners. Black lesbian is much more valuable than a white male or female. if you have a high intersectional score, our government will bend over backwards to secure your freedom. Others, not so much.
