Katrina disaster was a result of underwhelmed sheet pilings being too short where the specs called for longer ones like everywhere else in city.

Cat 4 Labor Day Hurricane that hit Galveston in 1900 is still the greatest killer hurricane of all time. Modest estimates of 6K and much higher estimates 12K human beings washed into the sea by storm surge overwhelming spit of land on which Galveston sits. Island temporality disappeared for a while. It is an interesting story but very, very sad as human arrogance cost lives.
