If you said racist things in 2012 and you’re applying for a job now, maybe that should be held against you.
But if you’re a 72-year-old man and you edited a racist yearbook in 1968, maybe everyone should move on.
But here’s the latest breaking news from Virginia.
A Virginia Military Institute yearbook overseen by future state Senate Majority Leader Tommy Norment in 1968 features a host of racist photos and slurs, including blackface.
In 1968. 50 years ago.
The media is denouncing a 72-year-old man for something he may have participated in when he was 22 years old.
I’m not playing favorites here. This story was stupid when it involved Governor Northam.
Somehow Northam’s public support for infanticide is not disqualifying, but his wearing of blackface 34 years ago is. Few Democrats want to tell Lt. Gov Fairfax to resign after a recent rape accusation, but everyone is shouting that Northam must leave over an event from ’84.
So now the media has doubled down with a demand that a 72-year-old resign over a yearbook from 50 years ago.
People do grow and change from their twenties. It’s one thing to hold a twenty something accountable for something he did in his twenties or even teens. But we’ve gone through the stupid mirror all the way to the other side of an insane cultural revolution when we indict people in their seventies for stupid things they said two generations ago.
The Left has been obsessively tearing down statues and doxxing people. Now it’s moved on to going after the yearbooks of the elderly.
Where does it stop?
