I take no backseat to my distaste for Chris Christie. But Bridgegate was a political hit job by Democrats based on conspiracy theories, rather than the law. It had as much substance as the campaign against President Trump and assorted members of his cabinet.
Democrats took an absurd premise, harnessed it to a lynch mob, and its political operatives in the justice system carried it forward, ironically, for the same reason that Bridgegate was accused of happening, for partisan political payback.
What’s worse, closing traffic lanes for political payback, or using the criminal justice system for political payback?
The latter has become a regular feature of life now. And it’s a far greater threat and abuse of power as legal doctrines are invented by Democrat judges and prosecutors with no meaningless precedent for the sole purpose of lynching their political enemies.
The Supreme Court has the opportunity to shoot one of the earlier recent examples of this trend.
