As the Discover the Networks profile of CAIR and its founder and executive director Nihad Awad shows, they’re Hamas backers.
In 1993, Awad, who had developed into an increasingly outspoken advocate for the rights of Palestinians, became the public-relations director of the Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP)—a front group for Hamas.
With the help of a $5,000 donation from the Texas-based Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF)—yet another Hamas front group—CAIR opened up an office in Washington, D.C.
In his new position with CAIR, Awad’s affinity for Hamas became increasingly evident. At a March 22, 1994 symposium at Barry University in Florida, he declared: “I used to support the PLO, and I used to be the President of the General Union of Palestine Students which is part of the PLO here in the United States, but after I researched the situation inside Palestine and outside, I am in support of the Hamas movement more than the PLO.”
In an interview that same year with newsman Mike Wallace, Awad was asked if he supported the “military undertakings of Hamas,” to which he replied: “The United Nations Charter grants people who are under occupation [the right] to defend themselves against illegal occupation.”
Despite all that, CAIR became mainstreamed to such an extent that the Biden administration enlisted it to fight antisemitism.
After the Oct 7 Hamas attacks, Awad was one of the leaders whom the media, including CNN and NBC News, quoted in criticizing Biden’s response. The media failed to mention that Awad and CAIR were strong Hamas backers.
Now, Awad made it extremely public in this speech at the American Muslims For Palestine (AMP) convention. (Courtesy of MEMRI)

Nihad Awad: “The people of Gaza only decided to break the siege, the walls of the concentration camp, on October 7. And yes, I was happy to see people breaking the siege and throwing down the shackles of their own land, and walk free into their land, which they were not allowed to walk in. And yes, the people of Gaza have the right to self-defense, have the right to defend themselves, and yes, Israel, as an occupying power, does not have that right to self-defense.”
American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), as Discover the Network’s profile shows, was set up by Hatem Bazian, the co-founder of the campus hate group Students for Justice in Palestine, and has its own Hamas ties.
CAIR has once again shown what it is. Will Democrats and the media break their ties with it or double down on it?
Jeff Bargholz says
Nihad is a wad, all right.
Kit_Jefferson says
HAMAS and CAIR are just two heads of a multi headed Islamic Hydra who’s purpose is the total destruction of Western Civilization and the establishment of it’s own world domination.
TruthLaser says
The common denominator is the Muslim Brotherhood.
Algorithmic Analyst says
The radical leftists support Hamas against Israel (obviously)

In the photo/video of President George W. Bush giving the speech mentioned in the article excerpted below, Nihad Awad stands next to him.
Annals of Cognitive War blunders: George Bush, “Islam is a religion of peace.”
Posted on November 7, 2013 by Richard Landes
>>In the immediate aftermath of 9-11, President Bush appeared with members of the American Muslim community on September 17, 2001, at Islamic Center in DC to declare that Islam is a religion of peace…
>>[From Bush’s speech:] “from the Koran, itself: ‘In the long run, evil in the extreme will be the end of those who do evil. For that they rejected the signs of Allah and held them up to ridicule.’ The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That’s not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace. These terrorists don’t represent peace. They represent evil and war.”
>>…more than one person should have been equipped to explain to the President that the man standing by his side, Nihad Awad of CAIR, who may well have supplied the president with the oh-so eloquent Qur’anic quote, heard those words to mean precisely the opposite of what Bush thought: “In the long run [i.e., finally, now], evil in the extreme will be the end of those who do evil [i.e., America]. For that they [Americans] rejected the signs of Allah and held them up to ridicule.”<<
George Mallory says
Bush’s accommodating approach to “the religion of peace” remains his greatest moral error. The continued refusal to call a spade a spade remains a profound blindness on both sides of the aisle with a pathetic effort to be fair. Yasser Arafat’s tendency to say some things in English and the opposite in Arabic was legion but rarely clearly highlighted. The Koran endorses strategic lying to infidels. It is high time that the intrinsic failings of Islam be very clearly delineated.

His Hamas “movement” is at this time surrendering en masse in their underwear (to prevent body explosive detonation), with the bulk of military operations over.
World@70 says
One article I read a few years ago described the arrest of a would-be-suicide bomber, a boy of about 16 who after a strip search was found not to be wearing any underwear. He explained he wanted to be ready for his 72 virgins when he exploded his bomb..
Angel Jacob says
All hamass affiliates must be eliminated wherever they are.
It’s just an overgrown terrorist organization.
Starting with all of it’s leaders worldwide.
Anything short of this policy is support for terrorism and genocides. In other words, suicide.
NAVY ET1 says
CAIR and other groups have always used carefully chosen words to instill the legitimacy of their illegitimate cause, but I’ve noticed since October 7th that they’ve ratcheted up the rhetoric considerably, probably due to the groundswell of international support coming from the campuses of “higher learning” where children are lucky if they’re smart enough to tie their shoes.
And the dog whistles! Wow! Awad packed them in there so tightly during that AMP speech that it probably emptied all the protest ‘dog pounds’ for miles around: “Break the siege”, “concentration camp”, “throwing down the shackles”, “walk free into their land”, “occupying force”…woof, woof!
The worse news here is that you don’t break out this level of hot air and empty words without feeling empowered to do so…and they do. When Australia decided that they can no longer deliver mail to Israel out of “safety concerns” (yet still somehow deliver to Ukraine), their level of empowerment becomes justified.
If ONLY we had a President in office who showed unwavering support for the people of Israel, it would act as a global counterbalance. If only…
Noah Andeark says
If I’m not mistaken, Awad and his forever butt buddy Doug Hooper are both what we call “muslims”. muslims follow the made up moon-god allahahaha that was invented by the pedophile they call “the prophet mohammed”, who is actually a pig-faced dog that shat the contents of the terror guide the koran into the arabian sands following carnal relations with, then later a meal of, his favorite pig, or “dad” as he called it.
Kynarion Hellenis says
Enough already. We all know he is evil. He and everyone in his organization needs to be expelled and stripped of citizenship.
SPURWING PLOVER says
Frankly this lowlife little reptile can load pound sand since he shows sins of being anti sematic
World@70 says
In construction when we wanted to compact sand we used a whacker-packer or jumping jack tamp to “pound sand”. In Awad’s case, I’d pay good money to see that.
glpage says
I doubt the average twit in the American left who is supportive of Hamas at this time knows how closely the Palestinian leadership and the Muslim Brotherhood were aligned with Nazis. If they did know I wonder if they would rethink their attitudes.
Chanda Leir says
And yet any time any of us question CAIR, we’re called “Islamophobes.” Political correctness is the reason CAIR still exists. The organization is a clear and present danger to Americans and needs to be shut down–lock, stock and barrel. Arrest its leaders. Seize its assets.
Kasandra says
I guess the Obama and Biden White Houses never noticed that CAIR is a Hamas supporting organ of the Muslim Brotherhood although its origins and policies have long been widely known. Democrats must be so shocked.
World@70 says
The favorite excuse given by Islamists for every lying accusation and obscenity they utter is “it was taken out of context”. Personally I’ve never heard them explain how “cut off their hands and feet from opposite sides, behead them” or “kill them where you find them” is put into a context that changes their actual intension.
The Biden administration enlisted CAIR to fight antisemitism. Isn’t that like hiring foxes to guard the hen house?
