There’s no room for the poor or the working class or even the middle class in California.
California’s corrupt Democrat ruling class is about to make it official.
California is expected on Thursday to approve a ban on the sale of new gas-powered cars that would begin in 2035.
The state’s Air Resources Board on Thursday will vote on the ban, which would also ratchet up the percentage of vehicles sold in the state that are electric leading up to the 2035 date.
In 2020, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) issued an executive order seeking to phase out the sale of gasoline-powered cars by 2035, but Thursday’s action will actually put that goal in motion.
The California plan is more ambitious than federal goals. President Biden said last year that he hoped that half of new vehicle sales would be electric by 2030. That year, California’s regulations would mandate 68 percent of vehicle sales in the state are electric.
California can mandate whatever it wants, but the cheapest electric car is nearly worthless and costs $30,000. And that’s not counting the cost of battery failures.
The state’s average income is $33,719.
So let’s call this what it is, a ban on poor people buying cars.
California’s electric grid can’t begin support a world in which the entire state’s population is using electric cars. Especially once Diablo Canyon is offline and most of the state’s power supply is coming from unreliable and inefficient wind turbines and solar panels. And most of California’s population can’t afford them anyway no matter how many subsidies are rolled in.
What this order really does is command the working class and middle class to leave the state or enter an underground economy. The illegal aliens driving clunkers with no insurance or licenses aren’t going to be affected by it. The Tesla class will be fine. But it will wipe out everyone in between. Think of this as an order to turn most of the state into the Bay Area. That will only accelerate the exodus from California to other states. But those states are increasingly being reshaped by California politics and money entering their elections. And if Gov. Newsom runs for president, then the entire country will officially be run out of California. That is what’s at stake.
