Political appointees openly saying that they object to a company and will block its activities because its leader supports the other party is banana republic stuff. It’s corrupt and fundamentally disqualifies a state as a place to do business. That this is becoming the norm from the ‘democracy’ party says it all.
The California Coastal Commission, which like most state commissions are packed full of Dem apparatchiks with no apparent skills, announced that it would block SpaceX launches from Vandenberg Air Force Base because… politics.
“Elon Musk is hopping about the country, spewing and tweeting political falsehoods and attacking FEMA while claiming his desire to help the hurricane victims with free Starlink access to the internet,” Commissioner Gretchen Newsom said at the meeting in San Diego.
What are Gretchen’s qualifications to be deciding anything?
Gretchen Newsom (no relation to Gavin) tried to run for San Diego mayor, she went from student government to working for assorted political campaigns and offices and then became a political organizer for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (you’re not supposed to use the full name anymore because it has ‘Brotherhood’ in it.)
Suffice it to say she’s a typical political swamp creature who has accomplished nothing in her life except gobbling up public money. And in California, that gives her to power to block space launches.
What that means is we’re Russia in the 1980s where our space program is hobbled by political commissars.

Caryl Hart is a professional ‘environmentalist’ with a law degree. All of this has qualified her for board memberships at various environmental groups and once served as the director of the Northern California Railroad Authority. Her pronouns are ‘she/her’.
These are the completely useless people who have run the state into the ground.
California has been bled dry and it has little to offer anyone who isn’t on welfare or connected to the Democrat political machine.
It certainly has no more room for space travel. Not when there’s political incorrectness involved.
California exists to be robbed and stripped down to the core for a class of otherwise useless activists and their pet causes.
SpaceX launches aren’t compatible with that grand mission.

There was an interview with Musk where he explained some of the ridiculous lengths SpaceX had to go to for launch approval. In California they had to capture a seal, strap it to a wooden board, rig headphones for it, and subject it to lauch sounds, to see if they stressed it. In Florida they needed a fishing license, in case their boosters splashed down on a shark, and EPA licensing to use even potable water.to cool the launch pads.
