Following the words of Karl Marx, “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs”, California’s corrupt power monopolies are going full Commie.
Three major utility companies in California are looking to restructure customer billing, and part of that means customers could be charged based on how much money they make.
Sure, why not? Charging people based on what they use, rather than the tier they occupy in the social justice human pyramid is too capitalist anyway.
Southern California Edison, Pacific Gas & Electric and San Diego Gas & Electric filed a joint proposal this week for a flat-rate charge based on income.
The income-based bill proposal is part of the companies’ compliance with legislation passed by the California state government last year requiring these types of plans for utilities.
What’s next, a proposal for supermarkets that can charge you based on your income for bread and eggs? Also, Best Buy should charge you for a new phone based on your earnings. Airline tickets? There can be three tiers based on earnings.
Not that it matters how much California utilities charge for power that they can’t deliver anyway to people fleeing the state as fast as they can.
If you like your Communism, you can keep your Communism.

“ Southern California Edison, Pacific Gas & Electric and San Diego Gas & Electric”
Are these supposed to compete with each other?
Only in a communist state is this encouraged.
Capitalism has been replaced with cronyism in a step towards global communism under the disguise of helping the poor and oppressed

They each operate in different areas.

PCE is here in San Jose. Boy, does it suck. Everything here sucks, though. I hate this place.
i Jeff Bargholz says
PGE. Damn, I’m illiterate.
Algorithmic Analyst says
PGE is an interesting case study. They are like a punching bag for the state government, whenever something goes wrong. Since they are a quasi-public identity (I guess that’s the right term) noone there cares, they just roll with the punches and do whatever the government asks. They know they can’t be shut down because then the public would have no power (in most cases).
Jay Dee says
More stupid virtue signalling. The rich own businesses that can pass these increased costs onto everyone. This is just a way to hide increased taxes.
Algorithmic Analyst says
Good point, I hadn’t thought of that.
David Gin says
As Margaret said, Communism is ok, till you run out of other people’s money, and I include myself a former Kibbutz member from the 60’s into the 80’s.
Taylor says
So you were a communist? In high school, the administrators would drive us twice a week to Kibbutz Gan Shmuel to harvest their oranges for free. The kibbutznikim (communists) treated us like…chara…freyerim. I put up with that chara (guttural CH) for about three weeks before I refused to do it.

Twenty years? That’s a long time, man.

One word — ALTRUISM — the moral code of sacrifice and self-sacrifice. The moral code of cannibalism, you are your brother’s keeper and devourer, destroyer, predator. The moral code of NEED MAKES RIGHT.
The moral code RATIONALIZING collectivism, racism, tribalism, Islam, Christianity, socialism, communism, fascism, and Nazism. The “common good” supersedes the individual good. There will be no more independent individuals (THAT IS SELFISH and selfishness we all know is evil) just a daisy chain of brotherhood, one brother devouring the other.
“What is the moral code of altruism? The basic principle of altruism is that man has no right to exist for his own sake, that service to others is the only justification of his existence, and that self-sacrifice is his highest moral duty, virtue and value.” – Ayn Rand

why bother with the middleman power companies. and communist government. we just vote ourselves a fat tax free check every year. every resident gets the same amount divided by the budget. make it large enough to drain the swamp and watch them run for the doors when no one is making a profit except the corporations. no money to be made if it all goes to the people in cash.
Thomas Wolfe says
The #2 best choice I made over the last several years was dumping PG&E stock the day they suspended their dividend and the #1 best choice will be moving out of Commiefornia. Beautiful state but it has a serious non-native parasite infestation; the thieving government type!
Walter says
If California really was Communist, then the utilities would be publicly owned and operated as non-profits. Similarly all basic industries. Steel, oil, gas, water, sewer, and so on.
This way, for example, “Acme Welding” would know the costs of their fundamentals, materials, private capitalist business would thrive. As it does in Communist States, unless USA does “color revolutions” and or bombs them into submission…as done to Yugoslavia.
Of course this would require honest government and that the armies of criminal grifters and perverts were in jail.
The authors, and many others, conflate fascism with communism.
California is a fascist state. After all NSDAP had “socialist” programs, these were simply ways to divide and rule…just like we se in California. Call it “fascism with commie characteristics”.
KidZing says
The road to hell is paved with good intentions, and bad ones too.
BLSinSC says
Just when you THINK that CA can’t get MORE INSANE, they say “here, hold my BUD LIGHT between your butt cheeks”!! How can this even be CONSTITUTIONAL?? This is more of a TAX on the RICH than “equity”! WHY do those rich idiots keep supporting their communist rulers??
Algorithmic Analyst says
It isn’t the people that support the communist rulers, it is MSM and radical left pressure groups. The voters are mainly sheeple with no clue about politics, being driven along by MSM and the radical left.
jeff says
So with 3 brackets of income, those who are just $1 into the higher tier will pay much more for the same usage as those earning $1 less per year. Wait, this is starting to sound like California…
Kosh's Shadow says
So, if I lived in California and had to pay for electricity based on my income, not what I used, I’d leave all the lights on, the AC to 65, use all the power I could.
MikeM_inMD says
That is exactly what I expect to happen, followed by the veritable collapse of California’s electric grid.
Karl Marx says
How about “equity” billing?
How about those with white PRIVILEGE pay double?
Domestic terrorists (aka conservatives) should pay 5 times more.
Time to start your class action lawsuits!!!
Kasandra says
Well that isn’t insane or anything.

What a great idea. Now all of their newly minted slave descendant millionaires can feel the pain (for the 1st time) of paying not only their own bills, but also the bills of others.
Bet they would take their money and leave California if that really happened.
Christopher Burrell says
Some people are illiterate and did not read the linked article that goes into a little more depth.
You would still be billed for electricity used, but at a reduced rate, plus a flat rate depending on your income. It provides examples that a low income household could pay as little as $15, while a $180,000 income household might pay as much as $85.. So no, not unlimited usage for a flat fee. Sorry to disappoint. Also, it says this could be approved in mid 2024 and go into effect in 2025.
It does slightly shift costs toward those who can better afford it, and provide slight relief on those low income households. This is something that God fearing Christians should be championing. Those who collected much had no excess and those that collected little had no lack…
