Sometimes you wonder about the mentality of liberal elites who turn cities and states into hellholes and then seem surprised by it.
After two years, Governor Newsom popped his head out of the French Laundry and is shocked to discover that legalizing theft and freeing criminals somehow turned the state into a third-world hellhole.
After weeks of trains being looted in Los Angeles, state officials are now stepping in.
Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday helped clean up some of the debris left after thieves have been raiding cargo containers on freight cars that stop in downtown Los Angeles at the Union Pacific Railroad tracks to unload. He was joined by the state Department of Transportation.
Much like his symbolic homeless encampments cleanups during his recall election, Newsom has mastered the art of virtue signaling cleanups. A governor’s job isn’t to engage in physical cleanups, there are people who already do that, but policy cleanups.
Newsom refuses to do the policy cleanups, but wants to be patted on the back for making a huge mess and then getting photographed with a shovel before going back and making the mess even bigger.
“This is not one-off. This is organized theft,” Newsom said at the site on Thursday. “These are organized gangs of people that are coming out, and forgive me for saying gangs, that’s not a pejorative. They’re organized groups of folks that move from site to site.”
You wouldn’t want to use a slur like gangs. They’re just organized groups of folks. But as offensive using gangs might be around the California lefties who claim that slave owners invented the police and locking up serial rapists is the new slavery, Newsom went all-in.
“It looked like a third world country, these images, the drone images that were on the nightly news,” Newsom told reporters on Thursday referring to images seen in the video above.
The guy who signed the ethnic studies curriculum into law using third world as a pejorative is too awesome for words.
“A lot of this stuff ends up on platforms you shop on. I promise you, all of you. Some of you have bought some of this stuff that was not in those boxes because they ended up on some online platform at a remarkably discounted price. Did you ever ask yourself how anyone makes money at that remarkably discounted price? Across the spectrum, we have to do a better job,” Newsom said.
True. Without Amazon, eBay, Facebook and other Democrat Big Tech donors, this crime wave might be much smaller because they wouldn’t have an easy platform to resell all this stuff.
If only Newsom were the governor of a state that hosted much of the Big Tech base. Instead of holding Big Tech companies accountable, Newsom decided to scold consumers because they buy cheaper products as if they’re expected to know that Goodluck Fantasy Seller on Amazon is actually a front for a retail theft scheme. Not that they’re likely to even notice that they’re buying from a third party seller.
None of this matters because Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, who also funds Newsom, inflicted a Soros DA on the area and he treats theft as a victimless crime.
In December, Union Pacific sent a letter to LA County District Attorney George Gascón’s urging more aggressive prosecutions for cargo thieves and calling for an end to a no-bail policy for some defendants aimed at reducing overcrowding at jails during the coronavirus pandemic.
“These individuals are generally caught and released back onto the streets in less than twenty-four hours. Criminals boast to our officers that charges will be pled down to simple trespassing — which bears no serious consequence,” the letter said.
If you want your third-world hellhole, you get to keep it.
