They say that love will never die, but will it DEI? That’s the question being asked of whichever appropriate person of diversity is manning, womanning or thinging what used to be the New York Times ethicist desk.
I’m a straight white dude and recent college grad who has very progressive beliefs and is looking for a committed partner who, in time, can equitably raise a family with me… I want to prioritize dating women of color. I’m after a cross-cultural relationship. I believe very strongly that one of the main ways to combat racism is through relationships. Part of me thinks that I will always be somewhat disappointed if what ends up becoming one of the most important relationships in my life is with another white person. If someone is a woman of color, that checks a box for me in a real way. I am seeking to be antiracist in all my relationships.
Part of the reason that I prioritize it is to combat implicit bias, having grown up in a fairly white, quasi rural place. I am dedicated to educating myself on issues of racism, sexism and other forms of kyriarchy while also learning from marginalized people.
First, to state the obvious, the woke dating date has already failed by insisting that he’s straight and refusing to do the truly anti-racist thing and date black men. He needs to check his privilege.
Second, this is the inevitable consequence of politicizing everything including relationships. If everything is political, then the notion of choosing to date a black woman for DEI reasons is no different than Joe Biden promising to choose a black woman as his VP or Amazon probably soon trying to recast James Bond as a black woman.
It may be equally unflattering but anyone who accepts such privileges anywhere has no reason to complain.
If DEI is the future of everything in leftism and if everything must be subservient to leftist politics, then the future of leftist dating must be DEI.
