This is one of those trends that’s flying under the radar but it has significant implications.

Charlotte City Councilman Malcolm Graham said he is ready for the city to proclaim that racism is a public health crisis in Charlotte.

“This is a defining moment in our country’s history,” Graham said. “That I think we have to make a stand against racism and all its forms whether it’s racism in police departments, health care systems, educational systems – employment opportunities.”

Graham would like to see a proclamation completed soon.

He said it will be done by the mayor or full council.

Graham believes having a proclamation discussing racism holds city leaders accountable and forces them to consider race when making decisions.

Mecklenburg County is also ready to declare racism as a public health crisis.

Indianapolis has already done it. Other areas are following suit.

Now the most obvious implication of this is that it diverts money to assorted lefty causes. That’s also what the Defund Police movement is partially about. And the blackmailing of major corporations. The Left is building up its machine and its activist base.

Case in point, look at the racist riot bail fund which took in $35 million and spent $200K on bail.

But there are more serious outcomes as well.

As we’ve just seen, declaring something a public health crisis can be used to effectively suspend the Bill of Rights. That’s really bad stuff. And lefties have been insisting for a while that hate speech causes physical harm to minorities.

Can this be used to suspend freedom of speech in areas where racism has been declared a public health crisis, I suspect we’ll find out.
