If only there were some sort of unconstitutional national mask mandate.
I know Chicago Dems have spent a generation whining that their gang violence and gun violence would go away if other states and cities had gun control. Now Mayor Lightfoot is extending that same false argument to masks.
Cities and states across the country “are never going to get everything that we need from the federal government” when it comes to combating Covid-19, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said Sunday.
Are they supposed to? Shouldn’t states and cities have some ability to run their own affairs?
And what exactly does Mayor Lightfoot need that she isn’t getting?
“We still don’t have a federal mask policy.”
A federal mask policy?
Illinois and Chicago already have mask policies. What exactly would a federal mask policy add that Chicago is missing?
Illinois has experienced a steady uptick in Covid-19 cases, with 1,828 new cases and five additional deaths reported Saturday.
“That’s being driven by our 18- to 29-year-old cohort,” Lightfoot said. “We’ve just got to break through to young people that they are not immune to this virus.”
If only there were a federal mask policy.
But allow me to speculate here for a moment that the uptick in coronavirus cases among 18-29 year olds has zero to do with any imaginary and illegal federal mask policy, and a lot to do with the general culture in which Black Lives Matter riots and gang violence are seen as acceptable.
The feds could help with that, but not with a mask mandate, but a crackdown on criminals.
