Anyone who’s gonna infect you with a bioweapon also just might not keep trustworthy books.
The U.S. government may have made duplicate payments for projects at labs in Wuhan, China, through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), according to records reviewed by CBS News.
“What I’ve found so far is evidence that points to double billing, potential theft of government funds. It is concerning, especially since it involves dangerous pathogens and risky research,” said Diane Cutler, a former federal investigator with over two decades of experience combating white-collar crime and healthcare fraud.
Cutler found evidence of possible double payments as she investigated U.S. government grants that supported high risk research in China leading up to the COVID-19 pandemic. She was hired by Republican Sen. Roger Marshall, who took her records to USAID and the internal watchdog at USAID, which launched a new probe, details of which have not been previously reported.
Sources told CBS News that tens of millions of dollars could be involved.
Not to mention the billions or even trillions in pandemic costs.
But it’s peak PRC to wage total war on us and also take time to steal from us at the same time. It’s like the way ChiComs overlay economic warfare of even the pettiest kind over their larger mission to destroy us. Unlike us, China understands budgets and its operations ‘live off the land’ through everything from ransomware to ripping off our products and then selling them back to us through Amazon. But its frugality keeps it from playing all that well on the world stage. Invite the Soviets in and they’d overthrow you, invite the Americans in and they’ll hector you about human rights, but invite the ChiComs in and they’ll turn you into slave labor and own you.
That’s not a great deal.
Marshall is now calling for a 9/11-style commission.
“I think there’s 1.1 million reasons that American taxpayers should care,” he said. “You’ll have a plane crashes. We want to find out why the plane crashes. We go to any lengths to do that. And the hope is we don’t have another plane crash for the same reason.”
Ought to care and actually do care are two very different things. If we cared more about the things we should care about, the country would be in a different state and we wouldn’t be a pinata for the PRC to bat around.
A spokesperson for USAID declined to comment. A USAID inspector general spokesperson declined to comment “on the existence of a specific open investigation.”
Considering that USAID is stonewalling the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, I don’t imagine a senator or Catherine Herridge are getting a response.
