Bottom line.

Democrats don’t especially like or consider religion important. Gov. Tim Walz in Minnesota has provided a concrete example of just how unimportant Democrats think religion is.

The Wall Street Journal editorial board notes, “Minnesota churchgoers were hoping for a reprieve Wednesday when Gov. Tim Walz, as expected, announced steps for easing restrictions on bars, restaurants, hair salons and barbershops starting June 1. But churches didn’t make the cut.”

 The Becket Fund notes, “the Governor announced malls, salons, tattoo parlors, & casinos can open, but churches can’t.”

If a hair salon and a tattoo parlor are safe, certainly so is a house of worship.

Becket has dispatched a letter to Governor Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison, the racist former Nation of Islam hate group member, on behalf of Catholic and Lutheran churches announcing that they will reopen.

“On May 13, 2020, you issued Emergency Executive Order 20-56 (“Order 20-56”) allowing “non-critical” businesses—such as malls and pet groomers—to reopen at 50% capacity beginning on May 18, 2020, and contemplating the reopening of bars and restaurants around June 1, 2020. We are also aware that Minnesota casinos are beginning to open as early as May 26. 

 …your Order continues the indefinite ban on worship services that involve more than 10 participants, without regard to the size of the venue, social distancing rules, or any other relevant consideration. This unequal and unfair treatment violates the Churches’ cherished constitutional freedoms and, more importantly, hobbles unconscionably their pastoral mission. Accordingly, as the Churches have indicated in their separate letters to you today, they are compelled to resume public worship services, doing so in a manner that, at a minimum, complies with the capacity and social distancing requirements that apply to “non-critical” retail establishments.”

The state may now witness the spectacle of a Farrakhanite AG defending the shutdown of churches.
