Sometimes life sends along something that leaves us with a distinctly queasy feeling. That was my reaction to the item Elder of Ziyon posted on St. Cecilia’s Day about Rabbi Jessica Rosenberg, the social-justice rabbi, or rabba, whom CNN chose to interview, presumably believing her to be “representative” of many in the rabbinate, about her view of the war in Gaza. She had, you see, demanded of President Biden at a fundraiser — she’s always speaking truth to power — that he bring about a total ceasefire in Gaza so that the poor people in the Strip could recover from those merciless Israelis. She is a member of the execrable Jewish Voices For Peace, and far to the left. I found out more about her in the brief interview she gave to CNN here.
Rabbi Jessica Rosenberg is based in Minneapolis and serves on the Jewish Voice for Peace Rabbinic Council. She is the co-author, with Rabbi Ariana Katz, of “For Times Such as These: a Radical’s Guide to the Jewish Year,” which is due to publish next year, and author of an ”Introduction to Trauma, Healing and Resilience for Rabbis, Jewish Educators and Organizers.”
“For days, I’d been marching in the streets of my hometown of Minneapolis, one of thousands of protesters expressing anger and heartache over the deaths of Palestinians in Gaza.
“Then, I had the sudden inspiration to buy a ticket to a campaign fundraiser for President Joe Biden, who I knew would be coming to town. It was one venue, I thought, where he’d have to hear my appeal.
“The ticket to the fundraiser cost me $1,000 — the entry level rate. It’s a lot of money, but it was a small price to pay for the chance to share my thoughts with the president.
“I had just one message for Biden: We need an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Israel must be compelled to stop the shelling of homes and businesses that has claimed more than 11,000 Palestinian lives. As the leader of Israel’s closest ally, Biden is in a unique role to compel the country to comply with a ceasefire.
“To be honest, I was worried about how accosting the president could alienate me from Jewish community and my rabbinate. After standing up and challenging the president, where would I be able to pray? What synagogue would have me at the next Shabbat?
“But with bombs falling in Gaza, with thousands of Palestinians and Israelis dead and missing, with hostages and prisoners still held in captivity, I knew I had to overcome my worry about the impacts on the people in my social and religious circles.
“I summoned my courage as I rose in the gathering of 200 people earlier this month, where Biden addressed the crowd from the stage.
“Mr. President, if you support the Jewish people, as a rabbi, I need you to call for a ceasefire right now.”

Yes, there are thousands of real rabbis who are not Hamas apologists, but CNN had to dig up this person… as their typical rabbi.
Rosenberg says their rabbinic ordination came from Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. That stream of Judaism is just as bizarre as the circus performers of years past, because their rabbis do not believe in God in any normal sense, which makes them fairly unusual people to be interviewed as real rabbis from mainstream media.
If you look at the courses RRC’s rabbis have to take to get that label, you see a combination of things that Orthodox 13 year old boys know and new age ideas that have nothing to do with Judaism.
It takes them three years to learn how to…pray.
By the end of Year 3, all students are assessed for basic liturgical competence covering:
- Weekly services
- Shabbat services
- Life-cycle rituals
- Torah cantillation
Students are assessed for:
- Fluent reading with correct pronunciation
- Ability to apply appropriate nusach, as well as contemporary melodies
- Phrasing conveying basic comprehension
These materials and skills are covered in the Tefillah and Life Cycle courses. Hallel and Birkat Hamazon are assessed by the end of Year 3.
Even at the end of that time, they do not know how to lead prayers on holidays.

In this course, students will explore creating a Jewish Theology of Liberation by looking at Jewish thinkers, and then Liberation Theology as it has been developed by Latin American, Black, Womanyst, Feminist and Eco-Feminist thinkers. Students will raise questions as to how applicable these ideas are to the Jewish communities they want to address….
I only have one question for Rabbi Jessica Rosenberg. I know what a “womanizer” is, but what does “womanyst” mean?

It’s not the only confusing thing about Rosenberg. She identifies herself as “cisgender queer” – and far as I could tell after checking, the two labels are mutually exclusive. But no one seems to care. I guess even those definitions are so ‘fluid’ they are meaningless.
But there’s no ambiguity about the fact CNN deliberately chose this person who is NOT representative of American rabbis (or even of ordinary Jews), and had nothing that merited plucking her from obscurity, except for 15 seconds of rudely interrupting Joe Biden.
Most of them are JINO’s, Jews in Name Only… if that.
I questioned a few at a table at UNM. I asked about Jewish holidays, any quote from the Torah, a Sedar and the steps and meal, NOTHING. They were pro-BDS, ranted the talking points.

A “female” rabbi with a goatee would be seen as bizarre by most Israelis, including secular Jews. This is in fact why secular Israelis, while they may resent the Orthodox rabbinate, are uninterested in pseudo Jewish sects from the United States. No more ceasefire until every one of those 11,000 is accounted for with proof of cause of death. Being notorious lyers and cheats, Hamas can ‘claim’ any numbers they want.
