First prize for unintentionally terrible messaging goes to Bill Clinton. But CNN’s Wolf Blitzer just managed to steal second.

Blitzer went on to say a lot of Trump’s supporters believed the charge, which was “a really, really awful situation.”

“We are not the enemy of the American people. We love the American people,” he said.

That sounds like something the People’s Republic of China, Russia or North Korea would say. “We’re not your enemies. We love you. Really.”

Is there any better way to assure the people you hate of your hatred than with completely insincere protestations of friendship that wouldn’t fool a 7-year-old in a schoolyard.

Blitzer is responding to President Trump tweeting, “Our Country’s biggest enemy is the Fake News so easily promulgated by fools!” And Blitzer’s response no only shows that Trump has managed to appropriate Fake News (originally a media scare term for the alternative media), but to make CNN answer to it and then protest that they don’t really hate America.

On second thought, maybe CNN can steal first from Bill Clinton.
