Later this month when the IHH, a Turkish terror-linked organization, sends another flotilla to Gaza, it won’t be acting alone. The New York Times reports that the new flotilla will include about ten ships; that “one boat will carry Spaniards, another Canadians, another Swiss and another Irish;” and that “among the boats will be an American ship with 34 passengers….”
The _Time_s adds that “the Americans have named their boat ‘The Audacity of Hope,’ lifting the title of a book by President Obama to make a point,” and identifies its coordinator as Leslie Cagan, whom it characterizes as a “political organizer”—and leaves it at that.
There is, of course, a lot more to be said about Leslie Cagan—“a strong supporter of Fidel Castro [who] proudly aligns her politics with those of Communist Cuba,” as Discover the Networks notes. Cagan “condemns what she calls the United States’ ‘daily assaults and attacks on poor and working people, on women, people of color, lesbians/gays and other sexual minorities, the disabled and so many others,‘” and “considers Castro’s Cuba to be a far better place to live….”
Cagan, in other words, is one of those suffering Western radicals, a “daily assault” victim, who somehow manages to thrive in the maws of oppression while ceaselessly battering the free country that gives her so much latitude. “In the early 1990s,” Discover the Networks points out, she “was the official coordinator of the U.S. Peace Council, a pro-Castro, pro-Sandinista, pro-FMLN, pro-PLO, anti-American organization.”
She also “strongly opposed the 2003 U.S. military strike against Iraq,” and her website crowed that “Oil is not worth war! How much is the Bush administration’s push for war with Iraq motivated by its desire to gain control of Iraq’s oil fields?” The fact that those fields are now firmly under the control of the Iraqi Oil Ministry will not, it can safely be assumed, deflect Cagan from her course.
The curiosity, as usual, is that a dyed-in-the-genes Red like Cagan (who says she came from a “red diaper” family) wants to join forces with the likes of the IHH, whose leader Bülent Yildirim has stated that “a Muslim cannot be defeated by oppressors and infidels…. If the owners of Al-Quds [Jerusalem] are Muslims, control of the world will be in Muslim hands.” But, dictatorship of the proletariat or Caliphate, it makes little difference to the likes of Cagan, so long as the war against democratic civilization—and particularly the United States and Israel—continues.
In another of its series of bulletins on the new flotilla, Israel’s Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center reported on Monday that “there are apparently plans to use defiance and passive resistance to make it difficult for Israel to take over the ships, which are liable to deteriorate into the sort of violence seen during the previous flotilla.” It cannot, of course, have escaped Cagan that that violence involved a mob assault on Israeli soldiers by metal-bar-, club-, and knife-wielding IHH jihadists shouting “Allahu Akbar!” Full steam ahead!
Cagan is also undoubtedly aware that the new flotilla will try to bring supplies to the rulers of Gaza, the IHH’s close ally Hamas—whose attitude toward “women…lesbians/gays and other sexual minorities” is something other than the peak of liberalism. No matter. In the grotesque, inverted world that Leslie Cagan apparently incorrigibly inhabits, abetting the genocidal jihadists is the peak of righteousness.
