The coronavirus numbers are still developing, but now that it’s an issue outside China, whose numbers are not trustworthy, we’re getting some better data. The highest risk is obviously to those over the age of 70 and especially 80. And, people with medical problems.
That’s not surprising.
We’re still a long ways from the election, but seasonally speaking, this could very well kick in at the worst possible time for the election. Forget the financial reprecussions, the Republican base tends to be older and the Democrat base younger. With calls from some in the CDC for people over the age of 60 to remain home, that would have an obvious and unhappy impact on Republican turnout.
Of course it might have an unhappy impact on election turnout period.
But in the Trump era, Republicans do rely heavily on those rallies to mobilize popular support, and, as always, on older voters.
Whatever the actual impact of coronavirus might be, its percieved impact could transform the GOTV effort,
