Everything is racist these days. We might as well eliminate most adjectives and simplify our language these days by calling everything racist. And canceling everything except forums for denouncing everything as racist. 

Now the equity tribunal has judged that Halloween is racist. 

A Seattle elementary school canceled Halloween activities over concerns about student equity and inclusion. Specifically, Seattle Public Schools says Black males do not celebrate and, more generally, students of color feel marginalized by the holiday.

That comes as news to me. 

In New York City, black males seem to be the most enthusiastic about Halloween. Or at least certain aspects of it. 

But equity, and Ibram X. Kendi’s anti-racism, contend that any difference between black people and everyone else is evidence of racism. Following that to its logical conclusion means that if Halloween is less celebrated by black men, then it must be racist.

If you like your critical race theory, you get to keep your critical race theory. And absolutely nothing else.

Benjamin Franklin Day Elementary (B.F. Day) in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood typically hosts Halloween festivities each year. They include a “Pumpkin Parade” where students wear costumes if they choose. But the school administration changed its focus to “foundational beliefs around equity for our students and families,” and, consequently, they’re canceling Halloween.

Foundational beliefs requiring tossing out America’s foundations and replacing them with cancel culture.

“Historically, the Pumpkin Parade marginalizes students of color who do not celebrate the holiday,” the spokesperson claimed. “Specifically, these students have requested to be isolated on campus while the event took place. In alliance with SPS’s unwavering commitment to students of color, specifically African American males, the staff is committed to supplanting the Pumpkin Parade with more inclusive and educational opportunities during the school day.”

Finally, black men can be safe from the Pumpkin Parade.
