There are three Cuomo scandals.
1. Cuomo’s order forcing nursing homes to accept infected coronavirus patients may have killed thousands of elderly residents.
2. Cuomo has a #MeToo issue.
…and now…
3. Cuomo used the Department of Health as a family testing service.
I helped break the story on Grandma Killer Cuomo a year ago. I’ve written two articles on Cuomo’s #MeToo issues, including noting that every top Democrat in the state has the same issue, and that Cuomo’s own creepiness goes back at least 20 years to his time in the Clinton administration.
That said, I can’t get too exercised about it. Or about Cuomo using the Department of Health for his family members because thousands of dead people easily trump both.
And both have also become increasingly commonplace.
High-level members of the state Department of Health were directed last year by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker to conduct prioritized coronavirus testing on the governor’s relatives as well as influential people with ties to the administration, according to three people with direct knowledge of the matter.
Members of Cuomo’s family including his brother, his mother and at least one of his sisters were also tested by top health department officials — some several times, the sources said.
Still, one of the people familiar with the matter said that the people with close ties to the governor, including his relatives, would have their samples moved to the front of the line at Wadsworth and be given priority. They were referred to as “critical samples.”
How commonplace was this sort of thing? I suspect it was very commonplace. Early on, celebrities seemed to be able to get tested early and often. I doubt there’s a state where elected officials didn’t move family members to the front of the line. Wrong? Obviously. But overshadowed by Cuomo not just privileging family members, but actively destroying the lives of others.
On that note, while the media is displaying this shiny object, it’s cheering the historic confirmation of Pennsylvania health boss Richard Levine who took his own mother out of the nursing homes while signing a death sentence for untold numbers of nursing home residents with the same order as New York.
Apparently tweeting rudely means the Senate won’t confirm you, but having blood on your hands is fine.
