Do the Capitol Police really need 20,000 National Guard troops, many of them sleeping in hallways, as backup? (Note the lack of concern about coronavirus spread and superspreader events from that massive concentration of troops literally sleeping next to each other in Congress from the same Democrats and media who were recently claiming that Republicans in safe rooms who weren’t wearing masks were a superspreader event.)
The Capitol Police have over 2,000 sworn officers. A police force dedicated to protecting Capitol Hill has more personnel in its service than the police forces of most of the country. Congress’ private cops are the 19th largest police force in the country. It’s a larger force than the police forces of Atlanta, Baltimore, Denver, or Milwaukee with a massive $460 million budget.
While Democrats advocated defunding the police, their private police force budget shot up from $375 million in 2016 to $460 million in 2020.
That’s what I wrote in, The Capitol Hill Riot Was Pelosi’s Fault, Not Trump’s.
The Capitol Police have plenty of manpower and they’re backed by the D.C. cops and the Park Police, among others. Even when Democrats forced the National Guard to leave during the Black Lives Matter assault on the city and the White House, AG Barr was able to mobilize a sizable number of federal law enforcement personnel to the shock and horror of Democrats and their media. So the military occupation of D.C. by 20,000 troops is theater, but it’s also an excercise.
And it comes complete with political commissars.
U.S. defense officials say they are worried about an insider attack or other threat from service members involved in securing President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, prompting the FBI to vet all of the 25,000 National Guard troops coming into Washington for the event.
Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy told The Associated Press on Sunday that officials are conscious of the potential threat, and he warned commanders to be on the lookout for any problems within their ranks as the inauguration approaches. So far, however, he and other leaders say they have seen no evidence of any threats, and officials said the vetting hadn’t flagged any issues that they were aware of.
”We’re continually going through the process, and taking second, third looks at every one of the individuals assigned to this operation,” McCarthy said in an interview after he and other military leaders went through an exhaustive, three-hour security drill in preparation for Wednesday’s inauguration. He said Guard members are also getting training on how to identify potential insider threats.

American troops hadn’t been politically vetted in a long time. But then again they hadn’t been assigned to deal with domestic threats in a long time either.
Democrats howled that troops couldn’t be used at the border because of the Posse Comitatus Act. But once they declared that protests from the Right, unlike those from the Left, are insurrection, they can deploy 20,000 armed troops and vet them to eliminate any political sympathies for the enemy.
Like every bit of this creepy totalitarian exercise, it’s a test of how much totalitarian theater Americans are good with. And the answer is a lot. This is largely a drill by the Bidentito regime, but the next time it may not be.
