I delved into the incredible politically correct incompetence of Oxiris Barbot, New York City’s health commissioner in my article, “Identity Politics Lied. New Yorkers Died”

Last year, New York City Health Commissioner Oxiris Barbot was warning that “even brief contact with the police or indirect exposure is associated with lasting harm to people’s physical and mental health”.

As Health Commissioner, Barbot’s bio boasted that “she uses a racial equity lens” and credited her with “spearheading the creation of the Center for Health Equity which operationalizes the Department’s commitment to racial justice.”

“As we confront this emerging outbreak, we need to separate facts from fear, and guard against stigma and panic,” Commissioner Barbot signed off: warning that the real enemy was prejudice.

“There’s no indication that being in a car, being in the subways with someone who’s potentially sick is a risk factor,” she told New Yorkers.

The level of incompetence here is mindblowing and downright criminal. Now some NYC council members are calling for Barbot to step down. But the De Blasio administration and its allies are predictably standing behind Barbot.

Freddi Goldstein, a de Blasio spokeswoman, hit back: “This is despicable and reeks of opportunism. Dr. Barbot has been expertly leading us through this crisis since Day 1 and there is absolutely no one more qualified to do so,” she said.

Anybody would be more qualified than this pediatrician who spent her time denouncing racism, the police, and falsely claiming that coronavirus can’t infect you in a subway car.

Councilman Mark Levine, (D-Manhattan), the health committee chairman, defended Barbot’s leadership as “outstanding.”

“She has given sober, science-based information to the public at every stage of this pandemic, including when some were still calling it a hoax. She sounded the alarm and fought hard for difficult shut-down measures when our city needed it,” Levine said in a statement.

That would be the same leftist hack who may have cost lives by encouraging people to go to the Lunar New Year celebration.

“In powerful show of defiance of #coronavirus scare, huge crowds gathering in NYC’s Chinatown for ceremony ahead of annual #LunarNewYear parade. Chants of “be strong Wuhan!” If you are staying away, you are missing out!” Levine had tweeted out.

These leftists have blood on their hands.
