“The person” who murdered at least fifteen people and injured dozens more in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day in New Orleans “was an Army veteran,” said FBI Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge Alethea Duncan at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon. “We believe he was [an] honorable discharge. But we’re working through this process to figure out all this information.” While it’s possible that he could have gotten a dishonorable discharge, this would have been a discordant end to what appears to have been a capable term of service. So what happened to Shamsud-Din Jabbar to turn him from a loyal soldier of the United States into a bloodthirsty jihad mass murderer? Everyone knows. Few dare say.
Fox News reported Wednesday that Jabbar “was also awarded a variety of distinguishments throughout his service, including a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.” Ironic. Also: “His awards included the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign star, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, NATO Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Parachutist Badge, and the Driver and Mechanic Badge.”
Now a mere glance at our soft, woke, combat-free generals with their chests bedecked with more medals than a Soviet Premier ever sported is enough to demonstrate that this is the age of the Participation Trophy Army. The military hands out medals these days as if they were candy bars on Halloween. Nevertheless, it’s clear that Shamsud-Din Jabbar was a perfectly reasonable soldier, competent if not distinguished. So what went wrong?
The New York Times offered some clues toward an answer when it reported Wednesday that Jabbar “grew increasingly devout” in his observance of Islam. The paper said that he was a convert to the religion, and that the jihadi’s brother, Abdur Jabbar claimed “that they had been brought up Christian but that his brother had long ago converted to Islam.” Yet apparently that conversion took place long ago, for Abdur Jabbar added: “As far as I know he was a Muslim for most of his life.” Brother Jabbar concluded with another improbable claim: “What he did does not represent Islam. This is more some type of radicalization, not religion.”
Well, maybe. But after the jihadi Jabbar had been killed in a firefight with police, an Islamic State flag was found in his truck, and he was discovered to have made several videos in which he “pledged allegiance to ISIS.” Dwayne Marsh, the husband of Shamsud-Din Jabbar’s ex-wife, said that the New Orleans killer “had been acting erratically in recent months, ‘being all crazy, cutting his hair’ after converting to Islam.”
Does the jihadi’s brother believe, or would he have us believe, that Shamsud-Din Jabbar misunderstood the faith for which he gave his life? The answer is obviously yes, but only the most naïve and ill-informed could possibly fall for this. The left caricatures the Islamic State as an outfit of nitwits who profess to follow Islam scrupulously but actually don’t follow it at all. Reality is quite different, and less compatible with woke sensibilities.
I’ve quoted the texts from the Qur’an and Sunnah exhorting Muslims to wage war against and subjugate non-Muslims in innumerable books and articles. Most Americans still don’t know such passages exist, and wouldn’t care if they did. Others are sure that they’re counterbalanced by numerous passages exhorting peace and tolerance (they aren’t) or that they’re hedged around by an interpretative tradition that blunts their literal force (no go on this also).
The unpleasant and unwelcome fact is that Islam teaches love for killing (see Qur’an 2:191 and 4:89, cf. 9:5) and death (Qur’an 62:6). Pointing out this fact will get you vilified, defamed, deplatformed, marginalized, and silenced, but none of that makes it any less a fact. Quite simply, Shamsud-Din Jabbar got deeply involved in a death cult, and that’s what turned him from a defender of Americans into a murderer of Americans.
American government and law enforcement officials, like their counterparts all over the Western world, have been resolute in ignoring the aspects of Islam that make for what we saw in New Orleans on the morning of New Year’s Day. But here again, ignoring them will not make them disappear. The sooner we adopt a more realistic approach to Islam and what it can do to a human being, the fewer people we will have who take the road that Shamsud-Din Jabbar traveled. And that will be to the benefit of everyone.

35 years ago I was a Medals’ Entitlement Clerk for the Australian Army and a request landed on my desk in regards to a former US serviceman who had migrated to Australia and joined the Australian Army.

Considering the degree of sophistication necessary to pull off such a con, I could only say, again, that we are up against forces that merely voting for the right candidate will not defeat. It seems that someone or something is engineering a chaos so great that only an authoritarian dictator could control it. That means the end of freedom or any concept of individual rights. I’m not one to make excuses for our government’s faults and sins, but I’ve always been skeptical of this kind of speculation. Being a retired structural engineer, I would rather believe that, as the planes slammed into the structure, the nearly full tanks of fuel ruptured and spewed flaming fuel all across the width of the building. This heat would have been thousands of degrees.
No doubt the estimates of ambient temperature the architects used in order to make sure the structure could withstand temperatures of about 500 degrees or so, which might be encountered in a SINGLE FLOOR fire whose flammable contents would be furniture, drapes, etc. Obviously, the structure exposed to THOUSANDS OF DEGREES would heat the steel structure well beyond its yield point (not melting point) which would cause a sudden collapse of that floor. All the weight of the above floors would cause a huge impact on UNHEATED lower floors and start a chain reaction of floor collapses. NO EXPLOSIVE DEVICES NEEDED!
Your points are well-taken, but please explain to me how the wing of an aircraft full of fuel can slice through steel pillars like a hatchet through balsa wood. It seems to me that they should have disintegrated on impact. But then what do I know?

I never said that the plane itself could cause collapse, but rather the fuel on board, in nearly full tanks (the planes collided shortly after taking off) would ignite and spew throughout the floor where it hit. The 2000 deg+ heat would have weakened the steel structure to the point that it could no longer support the weight of the floors above.
That is, speaking in structural engineering terms, just plain silly. When the Port Authority performed asbestos removal in the Twin Towers, the protection of the long span trusses that provided column free office space between the building core and the perimeter frame was changed. Watching the event on September 11, I told my companions the buildings would collapse about 15 minutes before the first tower fell. The combination of failed columns on the exterior wall where the aircraft penetrated and the heat of burning jet fuel was bound to fail the connections between the trusses and their supports. The massive weight of the upper stories pancaked all the floors below, as the structure was subjected to dynamic loads hundreds of times higher than the designers expected. Anyone familiar with the building design would have expected the failure. The earthquake and debris of the two massive collapses compromised the structures of adjacent buildings.
The real amazing fact of the WTC Twin Towers is the 1993 bombing that, had the bomb been a few feet closer to a column, would have taken down one tower.

Years ago I came across the term “Dar al-Islam.”. I looked it up online and was able to link to a number of Islamic websites in English of an “ask the imam ” variety. I read a bunch and got decent shorthand picture of the basic beliefs and doctrines of Islam. In the many years since, I’ve tried to explain these to friends and relatives when the subject of the nature of Islam came up. They simply will not listen. If you just tell them things about Islam which any honest imam would verify as true, they tune right out. The belief system is just too outside of their experience of what a religion is. They can’t believe that people would worship a god who orders his believers to kill or convert all nonbelievers until the entire world is governed by that religion’s religious law. That there is nothing in the religion about loving one’s neighbor as one’s self. Or doing unto others what you wish to have done to you. Westerners, by and large, will not believe it. And no matter how much carnage they see along “the bloody borders of Islam,” many prefer to just avert their eyes.
That’s because if they acknowledge these truths, then they will feel bound to fight back and/or fear the future. Fight or flight. They unconsciously choose the latter. But flight will be impossible.
