Life is good if you’re a Democrat.
You can be found unconscious in a hotel room in which a male escort had suffered a meth overdose and you get to graciously withdraw from political life while blaming depression.
Republicans don’t enjoy that privilege. Only Democrats. Especially lefty progs.
Andrew Gillum said he would withdraw from public life, closing a chapter in his career that took him from the peak of Florida power to a Miami Beach hotel room where he was found inebriated with a man suspected of overdosing on crystal meth.
Politico is too considerate to mention that the man was a male escort. That fact isn’t the lead. It’s buried in the middle of the article.
“This has been a wake-up call for me,” the former Tallahassee mayor said in a written statement Sunday. “Since my race for governor ended, I fell into a depression that has led to alcohol abuse. I witnessed my father suffer from alcoholism and I know the damaging effects it can have when untreated. I also know that alcoholism is often a symptom of deeper struggles.“
While Gillum might have a tippling problem, he was also in a hotel room with a male escort. He’s married. Certain obvious questions arise and are considerately overlooked for the time when Gillum announces that he’s no longer depressed and wants to get back into politics. Meanwhile no jokes. No taunts. No obvious questions. Just treat Andy like a victim.
And, no police action.
If the average person were lying unconscious in a room in which a prostitute had suffered a meth overdose in Florida, the police would not quietly tiptoe out of the room to let him sleep it off before giving him a kiss on the head.
Gillum said he would enter a rehabilitation facility. He apologized and asked for privacy.
