The original Democrat attempt to impeach President Trump was incoherent. The second one is just stupid.
The impeachment resolution approved by the House Democrat majority is pathetically thin and depends on the same gambit that was used to falsely blame Sarah Palin for the Giffords shooting.
“Fight”.
The only legally relevant claim of an incitement to insurrection in the impeachment resolution, which largely consists of media editorializing, comes in this paragraph.
“Shortly before the Joint Session commenced, President Trump, addressed a crowd at the Ellipse in Washington, D.C. There, he reiterated false claims that “we won this election, and we won it by a landslide.” He also willfully made statements that, in context, encouraged — and foreseeably resulted in — lawless action at the Capitol, such as: ‘if you don’t fight like hell you’re not going to have a country anymore.’ Thus incited by President Trump, members of the crowd he had addressed, in an attempt to, among other objectives, interfere with the Joint Session’s solemn constitutional duty to certify the results of the 2020 Presidential election, unlawfully breached and vandalized the Capitol, injured and killed law enforcement personnel, menaced Members of Congress, the Vice President, and Congressional personnel, and engaged in other violent, deadly, destructive and seditious acts.”
The only tangible example of this alleged incitement is the word “fight”.
That’s it. Seriously.
President Trump told the protesters to do so peacefully. He didn’t call on anyone to break into Congress and the breach happened while he was still speaking.
Politicians routinely use the word “fight”. Obama, Pelosi, and Biden among them. It would be the crowning hypocrisy for them to pretend that saying, “fight” is a criminal act.
Or that saying “fight” is incitement to violence.
President Trump’s comments about the march were quite clear. “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.”
A fight refers to a political struggle.
Biden delivered an entire speech titled, “Battle for the Soul of the Nation.”
Time to impeach him then.
