The Democrat narrative around their electoral defeats has consolidated around two themes.
1. Everyone who voted against them is a racist who wants to bring back the Confederacy. (Especially in New Jersey and Seattle.)
2. If only Senate and House Democrats had passed trillions in green pork and IRS agents spying on everyone, the public would have loved their agenda and voted to keep Virginia lefty.
The first is a dumb lie and the second is a delusional lie.
That awesome Biden agenda is unpopular even with Democrats. It’s so bad that Democrats have taken to lambasting the media for not helping them sell it.
The ABC News/Ipsos poll, which was conducted using Ipsos’ KnowledgePanel, found that a plurality (32%) of Americans think the bills would hurt people like them if they became law, while fewer (25%) think it would help them. Nearly 2 in 10 (18%) think the bills would make no difference, and 24% said they didn’t know.
Even among Democrats alone, fewer than half (47%) think the two bills would help people like them. A quarter of Democrats think the bills would make no difference for people like them and about 2 in 10 (22%) don’t know how they would impact their lives. Nearly two-thirds (64%) of Republicans think the bills would hurt people like them, and so do about 3 in 10 (29%) independents.
These numbers don’t exactly suggest that the Democrats would have won Virginia if they hadn’t spent the last weeks debating over how much money they intend to steal from taxpayers and then pass on to their donors.
And the social welfare items, the very things that Dems insist would have made them more popular, are the first items being cut.
The Dems will stick to what they really care about in the bills, illegal alien amnesty, an IRS agent for every household, and $250,000 electric car chargers for Tesla owners.
What so many voters wanted was a return to normalcy and some sense of control over their lives. That’s the one thing that Dems refuse to give them.
The lesson that Dems have taken away from Virginia is that they’ll win if they just spend more money on their pet agendas.
