Republicans agree that Gov. Ralph Northam should resign for endorsing infanticide. Democrats however have more important priorities.
“After we watched his press conference today, we called Governor Northam to tell him that we no longer believe he can effectively serve as Governor of Virginia and that he must resign,” Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine said in a joint statement with Rep. Bobby Scott (D-Va.).
“Governor Northam has served the people of the Commonwealth faithfully for many years, but the events of the past 24 hours have inflicted immense pain and irrevocably broken the trust Virginians must have in their leaders,” the lawmakers said. “He should step down and allow the Commonwealth to begin healing.”
Healing from what? A 34 year old photo? The immense pain caused by a med school photo from the eighties?
Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez expressed incredulity in a statement released following Northam’s remarks.
“His past actions are completely antithetical to everything the Democratic Party stands for,” Perez said. “Virginians and people across the country deserve better from their leaders, and it is clear that Ralph Northam has lost their trust and his ability to govern.”
Democratic Virginia congressmen Gerry Connolly and Don Beyer said in a joint statement that having expected Northam to resign Saturday morning, “Nothing we have heard since changes our view that his resignation is the only way forward for the Commonwealth.”
Late Saturday, former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton tweeted: “This has gone on too long. There is nothing to debate. He must resign.”
Northam’s press conference was an obvious trainwreck. And, at this rate, he will almost certainly be forced into resigning.
And then the Dems will claim victory having taken a scandal about abortion, a Republican priority, and turned into a scandal about political correctness, a Democrat priority, and won a resignation.
Tran is being turned into a victim of death threats. And the whole “infanticide” thing gets swept under the rug.
It’s a masterful political operation and a reminder of just how effective the left is and how effective the media is as a messaging force multiplier.
