We’re not all in this together: Newsom, Lightfoot, and Pelosi edition.
Gov. Gavin Newsom said Friday he should not have attended a fancy dinner party honoring a top political adviser, which occurred during California’s coronavirus surge and just as the governor is trying to discourage households from gathering for the holidays.
The Democratic governor, First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom and people from several other households gathered outside this month at The French Laundry to celebrate the 50th birthday of lobbyist Jason Kinney, a longtime friend. The dinner at one of the world’s most exclusive restaurants was first reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.
“While the First Partner and I followed the restaurant’s health protocols and took safety precautions, I should have modeled better behavior and not joined the dinner,” Newsom said in a statement.
Newsom had barred gatherings of over 10 for Thanksgiving and then joined a gathering of 12 people consisting of more than three households. And his defense is that the rules don’t apply to parties for lobbyists in fancy eateries.
Some drew a connection to the governor sending his four children to private school classrooms while most of the state’s public school students continue to do remote learning, as POLITICO reported last month.
Newsom has regularly implored Californians to remain vigilant by wearing masks, avoiding mixing with other households and practicing social distancing, repeating a mantra that individual behavior can make a difference.
How can anyone have anything other than contempt for this corrupt virtue signaling and hollow hypocrisy?
But wait, here’s the national Democrat leadership, featuring a comeback appearance by Salon Nancy.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has canceled an in-person dinner honoring new Democratic members of Congress scheduled for Friday night. Drew Hammill, her deputy chief of staff, wrote on Twitter, “Our office strictly follows the guidance of the Office of Attending Physician, including for this dinner. To be a further model for the nation, this event has been modified to allow Members-elect to pick up their meals to go in a socially-distanced manner…There is no group dinner.” Members-elect will now receive boxed meals.
It’s okay. The dinner set her up.
And on to Mayor Lori Lightfoot who had her own haircut incident.
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Friday defended her decision to implement a new round of lockdown orders, just days after she joined large crowds celebrating Joe Biden’s election victory, saying that sometimes people need “relief” despite her recent calls to cancel traditional Thanksgiving plans.
Lightfoot was asked about critics who have scolded her for hypocrisy during an MSNBC segment that featured video of the liberal mayor in the middle of a “massive” crowd less than a week ago.
The advisory calls on all Chicagoans to do the following: “Stay home unless for essential reasons, Stop having guests over — including family members you do not live with; Avoid non-essential travel; Cancel traditional Thanksgiving plans,” Lightfoot summarized on Twitter.
Last Saturday, Lightfoot was seen maskless while touting the projected victory of President-elect Biden in a video she shared on her Twitter account.
This is exactly what we’ve been seeing all along.
Democrat leaders can’t stop hectoring Americans about masks and social distancing, even as they routinely and gleefully violate their own rules.
