We’re living in a post-fact super-propaganda system where the truth doesn’t matter so this statement won’t deter the media and assorted lefties from calling for a massive crackdown based on claims that the Capitol riot was aimed at capturing or killing Vice President Mike Pence and members of Congress.
But despite all the media claims, there’s no actual evidence of it.
The top federal prosecutor in Washington, D.C. said on Friday there is no “direct evidence” to suggest that rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol had formed “kill capture teams.”
The comments by Acting U.S. Attorney Michael Sherwin appeared to be an effort to walk back claims federal prosecutors in Arizona had made in a court filing late on Thursday, in which they alleged there was evidence that rioters intended “to capture and assassinate elected officials.”
Late on Thursday, federal prosecutors had made sweeping claims about the ongoing investigation in a filing as they asked a judge to detain Jacob Chansley, an Arizona man and QAnon conspiracy theorist photographed wearing horns as he stood at the desk of Vice President Mike Pence in the chamber of the U.S. Senate.
In the filing, they said Chansley left a note for Pence warning that “it’s only a matter of time, justice is coming.”
Jacob Chansley is the QAnon guy in the horns… who also believes he’s an alien.
Prosecutors said Chansley should be detained because the “self-proclaimed leader” of QAnon has previous felonies, doesn’t have a stable job, and lied to authorities about his drug use, telling them he only smoked weed “three times weekly in the past” but bragging on a podcast about taking mushrooms and peyote regularly.
“Chansley has spoken openly about his belief that he is an alien, a higher being, and he is here on Earth to ascend to another reality,” they wrote.
It’s possible the two are related.
His lawyer is also trying to blame the whole thing on President Trump.
Meanwhile the only evidence presented that anyone was trying to kill or kidnap anyone was Chansley’s note for Pence and some rioters having zip-ties. Neither is going to hold up very well in an actual court of law.
Chansley seems to be out of his mind. And his note is not a clear threat.
Video of what was going inside, as opposed to the very organized breach of the building, shows people wandering around and acting out, rather than having a very focused agenda of taking over, taking hostages, or killing anyone.
When the whole claim that this was an assassination plot hinges on an ambiguous note left by a lunatic, then there really is no ‘there’ there. And people should stop falling for it.
