Just before midnight on Tuesday, DirecTV shut down Newsmax, a move the satellite service portrays as part of a contract dispute. Newsmax and many others don’t see it that way.
“This is a blatant act of political discrimination and censorship against Newsmax,” said Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy. “The most extreme liberal channels, even with tiny ratings, get fees from AT&T’s DirecTV, but Newsmax and OAN [One America News Network] need to be deplatformed.”
Last year, House Democrats Anna Eshoo and Jerry McNerney pressed cable and satellite providers about their decision to carry Fox News, OAN and Newsmax. The Democrats accused the conservative outlets of serving as “misinformation rumor mills and conspiracy theory hotbeds that produce content that leads to real harm.”
Fox, the most watched cable news channel in 2020, responded that “For individual members of Congress to highlight political speech they do not like and demand cable distributors engage in viewpoint discrimination sets a terrible precedent.” Newsxmax responded in similar fashion.
“The House Democrats’ attack on free speech and basic First Amendment rights should send chills down the spines of all Americans,” Newsmax said in a statement. “Newsmax reported fairly and accurately on allegations and claims made by both sides during the recent election contest. We did not see that same balanced coverage when CNN and MSNBC pushed for years the Russian collusion hoax, airing numerous claims and interviews with Democrat leaders that turned out to be patently false.”
The Democrats’ letter prompted DirecTV to deplatform OAN, followed by Newsmax on Tuesday. That brought a quick response Newsmax host Sebastian Gorka.
“Yeah, absolutely stunning,” Gorka said. “I mean, a more blatant example of politically-motivated censorship is hard to imagine. And this coming as we have all the revelations, thanks to Elon Musk at Twitter, of government-sponsored censorship. Is this something being done in league with the White House, with the DNC? We don’t know, but we know the facts of the case, that Newsmax was asking for fair remuneration, which is exactly the same for the top 75 channels on DirecTV, 22 of which, 22 are hardcore left-wing news channels.”
According to Gorka, DirecTV shut down Newsmax, “because Newsmax is growing in popularity, it’s growing in influence, and they want to shut down a voice that isn’t the mainstream lying media, but actually brings the facts to all of our viewers.” The shutdown of Newsmax also brought a response from Sen. Rick Scott, Florida Republican.
“This is censorship by companies like AT&T of conservative voices,” Scott said. “They’re trying to shut down our voices.”
As the Washington Examiner reports, Texas Republican Wesley Hunt wrote a letter telling DirecTV he was “deeply troubled by DirecTV’s decision to remove Newsmax from their lineup of channels.” According to Hunt, the deplatforming was “the latest development in the Left’s ongoing campaign to purge voices they disagree with from the public sphere” and would “cut off tens of millions of viewers who rely on Newsmax for their news and information.”
Newsmax streams live on YouTube but for supporters in Congress that’s not enough.
“So we need to hold hearings here,” Sen. Scott told reporters. “We’ve got to fight for this. The American public has to show up.”

Just buy a smart TV. I Samsung has Newsmax and Real America’s Voice for free. About two hundred channels and several free movies sites, too.
Frank says
Good idea. Or, you can plug in a Roku stick, Fire Stick, or Android TV box, and convert a dumb TV into a smart TV.. You can watch Newsmax as part as a package (say, Youtube TV), or just by itself. The Fire Stick and Android TV boxes offer a web browser, so you can just key in Newsmaxtv.com into the browser directly., without having to hunt for an app. Troypoint.com does a great job reviewing Android TV boxes, and everything else regarding streaming TV. I personally like the Puffin browser on the Android TV boxes.

Finally watched the movie “1984”….after 37 years.
How long did it take you?

I bought the DVD several years ago. Looks like I need to watch it again.

Read the book, it’s much better. I did, first time in 1963.

I know of two film film versions. And a early British film version. Each one has value for our age – along with a firm understanding from the novel. Orwell has rare insight into the human condition.

Maybe you can stream it on AT&T, or Direct TV.

The following is from a 9-26-2019 article by Justin Taylor, entitled, Why Patriots Really Fought the American Revolution.
“In 1843, a 21-year-old Dartmouth student named Mellen Chamberlain was doing research on the American War for Independence.
He had the opportunity to interview a survivor of the initial battles of Lexington and Concord, 91-year-old Captain Levi Preston of Danvers.
The young scholar wanted to know the cause behind his involvement with the war. . . .
“What did I go for?” the old man replied, subtly rephrasing the historian’s question . . .
“Young man, what we meant in going for those Redcoats was this: we always had been free, and we meant to be free always. They didn’t mean we should.”
I would like to write more but space does not permit. However, you get the idea.

This is censorship 101
Steve Chavez says
THE COM-LEFT MEDIA has 99% of their message and they can’t stand the 1% that is not theirs.
HOW DID THIS HAPPEN??? Just look at Journalism Classes at our universities. The Prof gives the students an assignment to cover a protest/speech, and those who agree with the agenda, get the good grades and are then recommended to their college newspaper where they only promote their Leftist message while silencing all opposing viewpoints.
They then graduate and move on to local, state, and national news to continue their one-sided agenda. Any opposing views are labeled as hate speech or fake news when they are free and allow racist rants against Whites. Imagine if someone wrote that Blacks were the problem and the promotion of Black Supremacy!
Most university newspapers are run by the Com-Left like our local University of New Mexico DailyLobo.com with editors being members of the NM Communist Party to The Party for Socialism and Liberation, and currently, a member of the LGBTQ+ community who promotes her Lesbian friends in articles and agendas by the obvious Women’s groups. They don’t even pretend to care about others and don’t care how many times they’re criticized for it!
STOP THE COM-LEFT TAKEOVER? START AT UNIVERSITIES!
Dan Foster says
Why should we “start at universities”? It’s obvious here that all you have to do is own the media outlets. Then you can do whatever you want. Oh, unless you don’t actually care about the matter at hand and just want to destroy the university system.
Steve Chavez says
Who owns the university newspapers? All Students or just some of the students? Who then owns the message that is put out? Are they then supposed to use it like a Soviet-style propaganda outlet only allowing their message?
What if the Editor, like at UNM, is a member of the NM Communist Party and doesn’t allow any letter that exposes Communist front groups, including ones they’re a member of?
What if the Editor, like at UNM, is a Lesbian and now uses the paper to promote her agenda by writing articles about her Lesbian friends and the movement?
They also get away with it and have been since the ’80s and probably before that. One Letter to the Editor printed in FORTY YEARS?
Newsmax is now silenced just like what would have in the Soviet Union, and every country our Democrats/Communists supported, including during the Cold War.
Dan Foster says
Well, I guess we all know to the answer to the question, “Who hurt you?”
Capitalist boot lickers like you should love this sort of editorial control. After all the owner can make the decisions. This is just practice capitalism.
alex9234 says
Capitalism is not a system. It is the absence of one.
It’s 2023 and people like you still don’t know the difference between Capitalism and Cronyism.
Let’s study the root word ‘capitalism’:
Capital = Private
“Private” is based off a Greek root word for “INDIVIDUAL”.
There is nothing ‘individual’ about corporations like DirecTV, Twitter, Microsoft and others being subsidized by government. That is PUBLIC.
STATE.
Corporations are an outgrowth of state control of the economy. Which Socialism, not Capitalism, prescribes.
Incorporation is literally granted by the State. The opposite of a Free Market.
Ugly Sid says
Catering to trolls is casting pearls before swine.
Dan Foster says
Hey, Alex etymology isn’t your field.
Capitalism is a borrowed word from the French “capitalisme”. That word means, “the condition of one who is rich”. It’s rooted in the Latin word for “the head of” or “the head”.
Meanwhile private has a latin origin in the word “privus” which means single or private. It’s retained a very consistent meaning over the millennia.
So, now that you’ve been humiliated by your own ignorance let’s go on.
“Capitalism is not a system. It is the absence of one.”
Welp, that’s stupid. It would have taken you seconds to look up what capitalism means. You would have learned it’s an economic system. One of many actually.
I don’t need to continue.
Intrepid says
“Capitalist bootlickers.” Why Danny, your inner Marxist is starting to leak out.
I guess you don’t like it when owners get make editorial decisions. I wonder who made the decisions at Pravda? Who makes the decisions at WAPO and NYT, both leftist oriented publications. I would guess it’s the owners and the bootlicking editors they hire.
Frank says
Hey Dan,
Your Marxist/feminist buddies in Congress made sure to spend many times more taxpayer dollars on breast cancer than prostate cancer. Seems they forgot all about the Equal Protection Clause, which was part of their Oath of office.

Crevo Press says
Why is Frontpage shilling for NewsCrap? NewsCrap constantly posts highly biased, anti-Trump stories from AP (Associated Press) on their website? (Even pay the AP to get these stories!)
NewsCrap has been using this same line (they don’t like us!) to force companies to carry their junk news programs!
I fault NewsCrap especially since they resort to lying in order to get publicity over this contract (YES!) dispute.
Dan Foster says
Well, D.Hoe shills for lots of things so why stop at Newsmax? D.Hoe doesn’t shake it for free so he gets paid for interviews and since he’s driving into la la land chasing the buck he’s going to have a hard time getting checks from more mainstream outlets.
If Dave doesn’t shill for Newsmax where else is he going? Steven Crowder? Alex “I owe $1.5 billion and counting because I’m an idiot” Jones? Pickings are getting mighty thin. I mean sure he could go belch it out for the fascists like Nick Fuentes. Problem is Nick and pals think D.Hoe shouldn’t even exist.
Intrepid says
Why Danny, who are you shilling for?
Tex the Mockingbird says
Because Newsmax is real news not the kind if fake news you get from CNN/NYT, Snowflake

I love how primitive FPMers are. You can’t comprehend the idea that their are more than two options. You’re childish worldview sees people as FPMer types or one of those nasty “liberals”. It never occurred to you that I don’t care about CNN or the New York Times.
Intrepid says
Danny, unless you tell us what you think of CNN or NYT why would we even give a crap. But hey, CNN and NYT are filled with morons just like you.
Spurwing Plover says
because AP and the NYT’s is propaganda and CNN is the worst of it
Sword of the Spirit says
