I used to say that ‘Russiagate’ was a hundred, a thousand or whatever times worse than Watergate, but we blew past all that a while back. Russia is not relevant to anything anymore and what emerged was a bureaucracy radicalized by the Clinton and Obama administrations (which people misleadingly call the ‘Deep State’; a term that suggests this was a permanent feature of government and lets Obama and his cronies off the hook for major crimes) that had been doing this even before Trump and appears determined to keep on doing abusing its authority to suppress opponents.
Faced with an investigation into its abuses, it investigated its investigators.
Jason Foster, who used to work for Sen. Grassley before running Empower Oversight, revealed that “the U.S. Department of Justice had subpoenaed the personal phone records and emails of Empower’s founder, Jason Foster, while he worked on Capitol Hill in 2017, along with several other staff, both Democrats and Republicans.”
“The personal intrusion into congressional staff members raises serious questions about the basis including constitutional separation of powers and privilege issues raised by the Speech or Debate Clause, and attorney-client communications of those targeted with these subpoenas which should have triggered requirements for enhanced procedural protections and approvals.”
Foster has since stated that the DOJ was gathering information using “the phone numbers and email addresses of other staffers for key DOJ oversight committees in Congress on both sides of the aisle.”
“The Justice Department snooped on private data about my family’s call, text, and email communications for no good reason. And they did the same to lots of other attorneys working for congressional cmtes doing oversight of DOJ,: he added.
This is not the first time that the DOJ has been caught snooping on elected officials for political reasons, but the sheer scale of it and the sensitivity, staffers on DOJ oversight committees, is catastrophically bad. And the bipartisan element may finally get Dems on board.
No one, regardless of party, likes being spied on.

What struck me while reading the article was that the Russiagate accusations were trivializations of the kind of things the Russians would actually do, just projections of what MSM nincompoops would think of doing themselves. The real things the Russians would do are much more sophisticated and dangerous.
Jeff Bargholz says
Yes. the Russians are downright evil and always. have been.
It’s as though people are too stupid to read history texts.

Agree but at this point Russians are looking better than the Islamic enemies. Russians sort of make sense. Islam does not. And those cowards sucking up to Islam make no sense at all.
Daniel Greenfield says
trouble is that Russia is aligned with Islam
Mickorn says
What struck me about the article was the sneaky insertion of “Russia is not relevant to anything anymore”, which is in keeping with Daniel’s constant flip-flopping on Russia depending on what the far-right airwaves have decided to honk about on any given week.

Insertion. The troll is obsessed with insertion.

Your crowd were the ones who were shouting Russia, Trump all the time. Now you hardly mention it.
Why? Because it was always an excuse for repressing political opponents.
Jeff Bargholz says
You flip flop on dicks with your ass, so nobody cares what you “think.”
Jeff Bargholz says
I notice decent Russians emigrate to the West. Gee, I wonder why?

The POLICE STATE is here. We can choose to ignore it, but only to our own peril. Dinesh D’Souza recognizes it, as witnessed by his new documentary of the same name. I highly recommend it, for it is eye opening. Maybe a little harder to sleep, but eye opening.

I assume that the congressional staffers in the DOJ crosshairs are mostly lawyers themselves. Indeed, a good portion of the collateral damage in the bogus Trump prosecutions are lawyers named as defendants for the act of giving legal advice to a disfavored Deep State target. As an institution, the legal profession has remained shamefully silent in this abomination. By default, they’re all in on trashing the law in order to get Trump. I don’t know which I despise the most: the Gestapo DOJ or the complicit legal establishment. Either way, I don’t care what happens to lawyers in Washington. The jailhouse might make honest men (or women) out of some of those promiscuous sissies.

Maybe they’ll get some poetic justice and get fatally mugged by the violent criminals they champion and allow to roam DC streets.

Police state is right. Only the clueless and complacent don’t get that.

“No one, regardless of party, likes being spied on.”
True enough. But there’s a slippery slope on which totalitarians often try to navigate. The Dems will continue their dirty tricks as long as they’re confident that they have a secure upper hand in maintaining their position. As long as they believe they’re not the ones being spied on, it’s all good as far as they’re concerned.
TruthLaser says
Congressional staffers are getting the treatment that Trump and Jan Sixers are.

DOJ = JOE’S SECRET POLICE
Biden has grossly exacerbated the weaponization of the DOJ and FBI that began under Obama. What those agencies have done to President Trump, to any conservative they view as a threat to their power, and to the hundreds of innocent people who were present at the Capitol on January 6, 2021 is right out of Mao’s Little Red Book. Persons who have done nothing wrong have been denied due process and sentenced to absurd terms in prison while the violent offenders of Antifa and BLM commit grievous crimes and are not charged. This administration foments chaos at every opportunity and relishes punishing political opponents. PATRICIA McCARTHY
