In the last 5 years, Big Tech firms came under heavy pressure to publicize the racial and gender demographics of their workforce and to improve their numbers. That’s hard when your workforce is mostly white, Asian and Indian. This story may shed some light on how Facebook went about improving its numbers.
Meta (Facebook), like other tech companies, went on a hiring bonanza during the pandemic, as it faced enormous demand for its products and services while people were stuck inside.
Meta said it had 44,942 employees on December 31, 2019. By the end of 2021, the company listed 71,970 employees in its annual report and wrote it “expect[ed] headcount growth to continue for the foreseeable future.”
Meta then said that 2023 was going to be a “year of efficiency” after laying off 11,000 people in November. The company announced more layoffs this week that will affect another 10,000 people.
Levy, 35, was hired through Meta’s “Sourcer Development Program,” which attempted to recruit workers from underrepresented backgrounds. Levy, who is Mexican-American, said after being hired she was not given any work to do. She was let go in the first round of layoffs in November.
“We were just sitting there,” she added in the video. “It kind of seemed that Meta was hiring people so other companies couldn’t have us.”
Or so Facebook could claim to be diverse. People were hired to be diverse with no actual work for them to do. And then they were the first to be fired as is usually the case.

This is a company that pays no dividend to its stockholders but can pay salaries to thousands for not working. Why would any rational person buy stock in this company. This is also another example of so many American companies that are mismanaged in America today. Maybe, it because so many CEOs view a company as their private piggy bank.

I used to call them useless degrees but there’s been a whole ‘industry’ created that makes them quite lucrative, much more so than that of the actual workers who create the profits that keep the whole thing afloat.

I’d guess the DEI complex broadly speaking is a mult-Billion dollar industry these days. It includes the HR departments in the public and private sectors, the university diversity departments (the U of Michigan and the U of Texas-Austin each reportedly have budgets of over $10 million), the consultants and “trainers”, and of course the “intellectuals”, like Kendi and D’Angelo, who’ve made millions from their books and speaking engagements.

This reminds me of a coworker back in the 80s who’s wife worked for the post office. There was a gal hired there that was worse than useless. So they gave her a desk in the back corner where she’d be out of the way, and she amused herself all day for a living. For a government job, it was easier and more conductive to productivity than trying to get rid of her.

Sadly, this disaster is not so new. in 1966 we were living in Teaneck, NJ. Our next door neighbor was a doctor, originally from the deep south. He stopped in one day to tell us he was selling his house and moving out of state. He had a prospective buyer who was black and wanted to ask us how we would feel about having a black neighbor because if it bothered us, he could sell to others. We said, we had no problem with a black neighbor. We were very liberal. The black man’s wife was a teacher. A really nice lady. The man was a black redneck. He had a big job in government, with the Atomic Energy. He walked into our place one day in his undershirt, carrying a drink, slightly drunk, as if he lived with us. I told my wife to keep the door locked. His wife told my wife once that he had a drinking problem. It had started after he got his job for which he was totally unqualified and that put pressure on him. She said, that he got the job because he was black. LBJ wanted quick action on the Civil Rights act. Less than a year later, the black man disappeared. His body was later found in a ditch.
