The “Russian disinformation operation” excuse isn’t looking too healthy.
After DNI Ratcliffe shot it down, the media turned to an “anonymous congressional source” who claimed that the FBI is looking at the Hunter Biden laptop as a Russian disinformation operation.
Unfortunately for the media, the FBI has refused to back that claim up. The official statement is pretty much, “Regarding the subject of your letter, we have nothing to add at this time to the October 19th public statement by the Director of National Intelligence about the available actionable intelligence.”
FOX News is claiming their source says the FBI believe it’s not Russian disinformation.
Either way, the FBI dodge has fallen apart. Which doesn’t mean that the Washington Post and New York Times won’t prop it up with the usual “anonymous sources” routine. But social media companies are on more precarious grounds than ever trying to censor a story that has led to a Senate investigation and which the intelligence community has stated is not Russian disinformation. That doesn’t mean they won’t do it anyway. But it means that they’re betting everything on President Trump’s defeat while exposing themselves to serious consequences with few excuses left.
