Before anyone worried about a 300 lb bearded man sharing dressing rooms, saunas, and sports teams with the fairer sex, the war on single sex spaces was being waged by feminists.
During the 1970s, feminists demanded access to all-male clubs and insisted that female sports reporters had the right to interview half-naked male athletes. The consensual single-sex male space had all but disappeared in the new century except as a distant memory. The triumph of feminism further atomized male spaces and communities while leaving female ones intact.
By the next decade, books like Hannah Rosin’s ‘The End of Men (and the Rise of Women)’ forecast a world in which masculinity had been reduced to an evolutionary dead end. Such hollow triumphalism still persists in some feminist circles, but, as any biologist could have explained, the end of men foreshadowed the end of women.
Men and women cannot in the long run exist without each other either biologically or societally.
The feminist movement is using the same tactics against women that it did against men. Feminism was not a preference for women over men, as its useful idiots thought, but a profound hostility to the family and the biological duality on which it was based. When feminism campaigned around the idea that women were no different than men, too few understood at the time that what it really meant was that neither men nor women existed as unique beings.
Once the end had come for men, it would also come for women.
The opposition of some feminists to the transgender movement may be courageous, but it’s also hypocritical and self-serving. Did feminists really think that male single-sex spaces would be dismantled while female single-sex spaces would be left intact? The feminist movement, like every other leftist identity politics cause,.consisted of chauvinists and leftists. The chauvinists believe in the supremacy of the group while the leftists believe in abolishing the groups.
Much as the black nationalists of the civil rights movement broke off from the liberal consensus when it diverged from their racial supremacism, some feminists have broken off into TERFs whose hostility to men has only sharpened when confronted with the transgender movement.
The Left weaponizes out-groups against in-groups, not because it loves the out-group, but because its hatred of the in-group makes it a useful lever for destroying all the groups. It does not believe in any group. It finds, defines and sometimes creates disadvantaged groups, leads their causes and then abandons them. It does not believe in races, genders, nations, sexualities or any of the distinctions that it weaponizes only to dismantle them.
The paradox of identity politics is that it is wielded to eliminate races, genders, sexualities and nations. After every new civil rights struggle has been won, the new struggle dismantles the old. The transgender movement is only the latest iteration of a familiar phenomenon that supersedes each redefinition with a new redefinition that takes away the newly won achievements.
A new oppressed group always comes along to expose the old oppressed group as oppressors. And the cycle of oppression, struggle and liberation begins again.
Single sex spaces for men were attacked for representing male privilege. Now single sex spaces for women are attacked on the same grounds. The universalization of gender classes women with men as ‘cis’ oppressors of the transgenders. And, when the time comes, the transgenders will be denounced as the oppressors of the non-binaries or the asexuals.
Why settle for crossing gender when you can mix and match or abolish them entirely?
In the identity politics paradigm, only some can be the heroes, but everyone, from Holocaust survivors to the grandchildren of freed slaves, will be made into villains.
The Left’s goal is to destroy the categories whose divisions it exploits. Universalization, its underlying mandate, eliminates not only the divisions of the moment, but all divisions. The male club, the female dressing room and all the sanctuaries that separate the sexes, have to go.
The resistance to the transgender movement has been far too rooted in feminist chauvinism and hostility toward men. Its assertions of victimhood are falling on deaf ears because a new class of victims has emerged. A truly meaningful resistance requires remembering what it is that makes men and women different, and what the ‘gender binary’ really offers to all of us.
Unless we reunite the way that the Left divided us, we will be splintered by the infinite divisions and subdivisions of identity politics. The natural divisions of sex are not only healthy, they are meaningful, and they show us that men and women are incomplete without the other. When these divisions are shattered, instead of upheld, new divisions will form without end.
The feminist mantra that a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle still haunts a ‘gender critical’ movement that is entrenched in its hostility to men and loves women only as victims. A negative vision of women as victims inspires only resentment and is doomed to fail. The idea that women can be men has proven to be equally disastrous as a generation of teenage girls aspires to become men by cutting off body parts and mutilating themselves into masculinity.
Women and men can only survive the Left’s assault by standing together, not pulling apart. A feminism based on hostility to men and masculinist movements based on hostility to women just accelerate the breakup of the family and civilization. The only path forward is not Gloria Steinem or Andrew Tate, it’s not women hating men or men hating women, but the reunion of the sexes.
Men and women are different. The dynamic complementary relationships that form within romantic bonds, families, workplaces and intellectual dialogues from those differences make humanity what it is. Cultures, like Islam, that repress and sideline women, are hopelessly impoverished and incapable of constructing a civilization based on anything other than rape and murder. And an ‘End of Men’ culture is too busy wallowing in feelings and empathy to make the hard decisions it needs to move forward. Its streets are overrun with criminals, its borders with invaders and its geopolitical map with rival powers. Its infrastructure is collapsing and its institutions are running on inertia. Civilization needs both men and women.
Women and men humanize each other, give each other purpose and meaning, and introduce ways of thinking and acting to one another that do not come naturally to the other. Secure men and women also respect each other’s differences and the need to retreat into single sex spaces for dignity, modesty, companionship and the surroundings of people who are like them.
Single sex spaces are an important element of sex differences. They allow men and women to retreat to places where they temporarily do not need to accommodate a very different sex and can socialize on the familiar and natural terms of their biological natures. To permanently abide in single sex spaces is fundamentally unhealthy, but to reject them entirely is destructive.
Beyond the physical differences that make athletic competition across the sexes into an absurdity in many arenas, men and women need a balance of being in the company of those they naturally understand and those whom they have to challenge themselves to understand.
To be who we are, we need single sex spaces, and to be more than we are, we join with the opposite sex. Feminism and the transgender movement, in line with the leftist universalizing tendency, deny the ways we draw strength from similarities and contrasts. The constant insistence on diversity above all else is a nihilistic destructive impulse that destroys all.
We must know who we are in order to bridge differences. Similarity and diversity are both important. Without diversity, we do not grow, and without similarity, we are torn apart.
Women and men draw strength from who they are, the iconic models of their sex, the cowboys and princesses, the soldiers and nurses, to become husbands and wives, fathers and mothers, to become the best of their selves so that they can offer that ideal to each other in a true partnership that is the basis of a marriage, of a society and of a civilization.
Oh well, $crew them all. They reap what they sow.
Or put things back to normal, the way the used to be. Private areas for men and women. F all the chauvinists, supremacists and totalitarians.
Thanks Daniel! Some decades ago I was off the internet for awhile, so I entertained myself by reading the 1960 Encyclopaedia Britannica, which had a lot of interesting male/female animal studies. I’d say 98% or 99% of the behavior was normal male/female behavior like one would expect. There were a small number of outliers, like rare instances of homosexual behavior amongst the animals, which fascinated the scientists, but it was pretty rare. There were some cases of androgyny also, but very rare.
Anyway, another example where biology doesn’t change much, despite the political narratives. Not that the notion that biology doesn’t change much is original with me, I shamelessly stole it 🙂
Dogs display homosexual behaviour all the time, but it’s not actually homosexual it’s simply overly sexual because of their testosterone levels. I believe the vast majority of homosexuals have been abused as kids.

The tendency of dogs to hump is not limited to the sexual. Dogs who have been neutered prior to sexual maturity will still exhibit this behavior and some female dogs, also. Even some female dogs will engage in humping behavior.
It is common dog behavior. I think it has social significance that often has nothing to do with sex, but with hierarchy / dominance. And sometimes it is just a bad habit.
Yes, it’s an attempt at dominance, usually displayed by a weaker dog on a stronger one. It’s doggy insecurity combined with the natural canine drive for pack dominance inherited from their wolf ancestors.
I think you are right. You would think the stronger dog would hump the weaker one – but I have seen the alpha males totally ignore it.
No, the simulated sex male dogs perform on other male dogs and leg humping are attempts to show dominance, not doggy homosexuality. It’s actually doggy insecurity, like when a dorky wuss tries to laugh at a man he knows is his superior. (Punks like that need to be punched out immediately.) Think about it. If male dogs who pretend to hump other male dogs were gay the vast majority of male dogs would be doggy homos, and they aren’t.
Exactly. Non-sexual humping is insecurity almost all the time. A confident, well-adjusted dog never picks up that habit. And actual sex between dogs looks very different from insecurity humping.

For the past 60+ years the aim feminism has not been to help women, but to destroy the family and traditional values in order to pave the way for communism.
To be fair, a lot of people who buy into whatever is the Left’s favorite fad cause don’t understand that the cause as portrayed isn’t what is actually afoot. I believe it was Lenin who called such people “useful idiots.”
Yes, most of the fools who ascribe to such lies and obscenities as CRT, white skin privilege, the oppression of blacks and women, global climate warming change, the benevolence of the Dirtbagocrat party, et cetera, don’t know what they really support.
What the left does consistently is take anger at injustice and use it, NOT for the purpose of actually correcting the injustice—thereby strengthening and upholding our God-given civil liberties—but, as indicated by Daniel Greenfield—to use as a wrecking ball against the very civil order based on those liberties.
The left also specializes in turning envy and covetousness into a FALSE sense of injustice .—which further aids in the destruction of civil order, especially through mob violence and anarchy—with the ultimate goal being tyranny—and NO respect for God-given human rights. for anybody.
Insofar as feminism IS a wholly owned subsidiary of the left, and will not, or cannot, depart from that status, it is unworthy of support. But at the same time, there WERE glaring injustices involved in the treatment of women in such areas as property ownership, voting rights, and professional occupations—and I’m glad for the cause of women’s rights in areas where I see real human benefits overall. No one wants to be treated as a second class citizen—nor should they be—nor does humanity as a whole benefit where basic human rights are not universal.
That said, I believe in meritocracy—and in biological differences between the two sexes. If you have the ability to do a certain job—do it. But don’t be lowering standards for “diversity” or “equity “. And don’t be having biological males competing against biological females in sports.
My one perhaps quibble with Mr. Greenfield would be on the equivalence of females invading male spaces, like locker rooms, and males invading female spaces, like bathrooms, locker rooms, and jails. And that is based on those biological and anatomical differences that can result in behavior that is dangerous to females. Guys might prefer their all-male spaces, but the perky sportscaster is probably not there to perv on them either . . .

Todd Friel, the host of a Christian TV and radio show, told a story about going to a corner bakery with a women’s room and an all-gender bathroom – no men’s bathroom! That may be the unfortunate solution we are heading to. Because some are willing to fight for women and girls to have privacy, while the other side is strongly pushing for Transgender rights.
Any loving parent (or grandparent) ought to care about both their daughter’s and their son’s privacy rights. There are multiple cases where it was a boy whose privacy was violated. Here is one example of such a case from the Pacific Justice Institute:PJI sued the Sutherlin School District (SSD), its superintendent, Terry Prestianni, and Sutherlin High School principal Justin Huntley in the Oregon Circuit Court for Douglas County on behalf of T.B., a sophomore at Sutherlin High. (For his protection, T.B. is identified both here and in the lawsuit exclusively by his initials.) In January, a girl who self-identifies as a “transgender boy” entered a boys’ bathroom while T.B. was relieving himself at the urinal. The transgendered student entered the boys’ restroom even though Sutherlin High had made single-stalled restrooms available to her and the nearest girls’ restroom was completely empty. When Sutherlin High’s assistant principal asked her why she used the boys’ restroom, she responded simply, “Because I can.”

I would like to add that our best impulses have been used to great effect. The Christian church has been guilty of advancing much of the sexual and social ills of our modern society. The appeal was made of “fairness” and “equality” and “justice.” But we turned to our own wisdom and failed to consult the Word of God. I think it is why we are now facing an awful judgment which can only be averted by massive repentance. God is not mocked. We have sown the wind.

The saner elements of feminism believed in innocent until proven guilty.
The saner elements of feminism stood up for both male and female victims of domestic and sexual abuse.

Look up the article, “There’s Nothing New About Worshiping Abortion, or Linking Feminism to Satan” by Carrie Gress. Not all feminists are evil though. There have been a few of them who have seen the light.
One being Christina Hoff Sommers. A lifelong Democrat. She defended the GamerGate movement, bashed women’s studies programs in colleges, and has been a very vocal critic of radical feminism’s war on boys. Hence she published two books criticizing feminism such as “The War Against Boys: How Misguided Feminism Is Harming Our Young Men” and “Who Stole Feminism?”. She’s done a few videos for PragerU as well.
As well as Erin Pizzey, the founder or Refuge, the largest shelter for victims of domestic violence. She was ostracized by other feminists for taking in male victims.

I’m definitely against feminism. But I’m not against all individual feminists, whether they be male or female. I would hope they realize that feminism is not inherently a good thing and leave feminism behind.
However, I also should note that I do believe women should have rights and be treated fairly. I believe men should cherish their wives. Perhaps many feminists would say that’s all they want as well, but women should have something better than feminism. Feminism has hurt women and girls as it’s told them lies. Feminism goes against what God says in the Bible about family, authority, and the roles of men and women. The “empowering” of women that our culture thinks they are doing is not ultimately empowering because it goes against God’s way as described in the Bible. When the world teaches something antithetical to God’s way, it will ultimately not empower, but harm.
My mom gave up her career and is a wife and homemaker. She raised a large family whom she home-schooled. She worked hard. Her and my dad are still married and they love each other. She did what she felt God wanted her to do. She did what the feminists have tried (and largely succeeded) to get women not to do.
Somehow I was only aware of what I’ll call the “soft“ feminists, those who embraced sleeping around, and were happy about Roe vs Wade for birth control; those who wanted equal pay; those who wanted husbands to diaper the baby, not just take out the garbage.
I have to rummage through the memory banks to remember, what now seems positively lame by today’s extreme (un)reality: the “sexual revolution”. I was amused because I could never sign up for the “human sexuality” “course”, because it always conflicted with orchestra rehearsal.
There was still an innocence. That is gone.
How do we get back the innocence?
Everyone eventually awakens to sexuality, physically and emotionally.
But how that awakening unfolds is profoundly affected by all forms of abuse, within and without the home, from infancy throughout the tenderest, most vulnerable years of childhood continuing through to still defenseless young adulthood and the resulting life long trauma of betrayal of trust and violence.
Included in today’s ever expanding roster of abusers, are the surgeons and psychiatrists who should be rounded up with all the others and put in a permanently inaccessible single abusers space.
That would be a start.
You know, Greenfield, it seems to me that “the left” isn’t a monolithic movement and certainly not a group but rather a disparate tumult of people who mostly share certain asinine and totalitarian ideas, but they also hold different ideas which they believe benefit their particular creeds or demographics at the expense of all others.
And they can’t desire universalism and diversity at the same time because those are opposites, and identity politics are much more prevalent than ever before. There are so many factions that they’re impossible to keep track of. The one thing they have in common is that they’re all obnoxious..
Good point about female supremacists having made the female intrusion into male spaces the norm, though. I hadn’t thought about that as compared to the hypocrisy of the TERF movement.
And yes, of course both men and women need their own private areas available. Only chauvinistic supremacists and sexist hate mongers feel otherwise.

Anyone who is tempted to make common cause with TERFs- transexcluding radical feminists- should read “The Transsexual Empire” by Janice Raymond. In her paranoid, misandric mind, she actually believes that men have their penises lopped off in order to rape women, “infiltrate and colonize women’s spaces, and appropriate the female form and reduce it to artifact.” If you took her screed and replaced the words “male” and “male to constructed female [her term for male to female transsexuals}” with “Jew” or “non- Ayran” and the terms “woman” and “female” with “Aryan” and “Nordic German”, to would read like something from Josef Goebbels.
The other thing is that while allowing Lia Thomas to compete as a female athlete is as unfair as it is ludicrous, Title IX has been used to completely enervate male sports except lucrative football and basketball programs. Countless male swim teams, gymnastic squads, track and field programs and wrestling teams have been eliminated to comply with Title IX,. If Greg Louganis had been born in 1970 or 1980 instead if 1960, he probably would never have won any Olympic medals, since his school eliminated its men’s swim team to comply with Title IX. Feminists (even “moderate” ones) had no problem with that.
