[Editor’s note: Make sure to read Robert Spencer’s masterpiece contributions in Jamie Glazov’s new book: Barack Obama’s True Legacy: How He Transformed America.]
It was an extraordinary yet now forgotten event: on July 15, 1967, NBC gave New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison nearly half an hour to rebut an earlier NBC show that had criticized how Garrison had conducted an investigation of people he thought were involved in the assassination of John F. Kennedy. The segment was extraordinary because today we are accustomed to the major news outlets only allowing one point of view to be heard. It was doubly extraordinary because Garrison took the opportunity to explain to the American people that they were being lied to by the political and media elites, in words that are even truer today than they were when he spoke them.
Garrison’s central point was that the findings of the Warren Commission that investigated the circumstances of the Kennedy assassination were false, a claim that he neatly established by showing that the Commission’s reconstruction of the path of a bullet that supposedly hit JFK and then passed into the body of Texas Governor John Connally was physically impossible. Garrison contended that Lee Harvey Oswald was not and could not have been the lone assassin of Kennedy, and that he was, in fact, a CIA operative. The hit on Kennedy, according to Garrison, was a CIA operation emanating from the agency’s dislike of the Kennedy administration’s moves toward a thaw in the Cold War with the Soviet Union.
That’s an eminently plausible theory, as it coincides with the warning that Kennedy’s predecessor, Dwight D. Eisenhower, issued about the military-industrial complex and its interest in keeping the nation embroiled in endless wars (the Vietnam war was just heating up at the time as a proxy war between the U.S. and the Soviet Union). In the course of explaining it, Garrison made several statements that could have been uttered by any astute observer of the political scene in 2023. Above all, he said: “Many of the things that the major news agencies have been telling you are untrue.” Well, yeah.
Garrison declared that “information concerning the cause of the death of your president has been withheld from you,” and likened the official explanation of the Kennedy assassination to a fairy tale. “Anything which is untrue,” he explained, “is dangerous. And it is all the more dangerous when the fairy tale becomes accepted as reality simply because it has an official seal of approval, or because honorable men announce that you must believe it, or because powerful elements of the press tell you that the fairy tale is true.” He said that powerful forces in the U.S. were withholding information and lying to the people in what they thought was the national interest, and stated: ”There’s no room in America for thought control of any kind, no matter how benevolent the objective.”
Yes. Yet today, 55 years later, the thought control is worse than ever. Consider the silencing of Donald Trump, even while he was president of the United States. On Nov. 5, 2020, The Verge reported that “cable networks, broadcast networks and Twitter cut short their broadcasts of President Donald Trump’s speech from the White House briefing room Thursday; some outlets fact-checked the president’s unproven statements rather than carry them live. Trump began his remarks by baselessly claiming that Democrats were committing ‘fraud’ and trying to ‘steal’ the election.” YouTube likewise restricted videos claiming that the 2020 presidential election was not entirely on the up-and-up until just a couple of weeks ago, when it suddenly began allowing this topic to be discussed again. Why now? Election fraud allegations aren’t dangerous “disinformation” anymore?
No, it’s just that now we’re far beyond any point at which the injustice that was committed could be remedied. But back in 2020, the networks and the social media giants decided that they knew what was best for you, and that it was best that you not even hear what Trump was saying. They deliberately withheld information from us in service of their agenda, just as Garrison contended back in 1967 that they did regarding the Kennedy assassination.
There are, of course, myriad other examples of this. YouTube is still at it, just days ago banning an interview with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. that the elites claim contains “misinformation” regarding the deadly COVID vaccines. Networks devoted no time at all to evidence of Biden’s influence peddling, while giving lavish coverage to Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents. And that insufferable and smug authoritarian, Barack Obama, lamented in May the decline of the media establishment’s stranglehold on the sources of information: “When I was coming up,” he reminisced, “you had three TV stations … and people were getting a similar sense of what is true and what isn’t, what was real and what was not.” Ah yes, it was a lot easier back then to control what people saw and what they didn’t, and to maintain a narrative. Now, however, the elites are still doing it well enough.
Jim Garrison told us of the dangers of all this long ago. NBC was actually canny to give him time, as it could then point to its having done so as evidence that it was actually a neutral and even-handed news source. But it wasn’t then and it isn’t now; nor are the other primary news outlets. As they did in Garrison’s time, they have an agenda to push, and they push it relentlessly and with considerable ingenuity. Most Americans today still think that while in totalitarian regimes such as National Socialist Germany and the international socialist Soviet Union, the news outlets just pumped out regime propaganda, we have a free press here that tells us the truth.
That assumption is testimony to the power of today’s propaganda. The news outlets didn’t give us the truth in 1967, and they don’t today. Americans should watch Garrison’s remarks and realize that the same forces are still in power, and even more effectively controlling the discourse now than they were then.
Pheighk Gneime says
As for “that insufferable and smug authoritarian, Barack Obama,” he got his foot in the White House door by Larry Bland, Nate Spencer, and Donald Young.
Mark Dunn says
This whole thing is off topic, but still interesting. A few minutes Internet search seems to tell me Obama, and these dead gay men may have been more than casual acquaintances?
Mark Dunn says
People can lie, but the science can’t, it all boils down to a simple physics problem. The trajectory, and speed of the bullet, the location of the car, and victims. The crime scene is unchanged anyone could do the measurements and calculations. None of that stuff can be faked.
sue says
Hello Mark, Ph, Dr. Spencer and all – But when The Party says that 2 plus 2 equals 5,… And doesn’t Genesis tell us that the whole world system we are living in is founded on a lie, the first lie ever told? The lie being that our first parents did not need their Creator, but could set their own standards of good and bad.
Having made the fatal decision to cut themselves – and us, their unborn children – off from their Creator, their Source of life – they found they could not even keep themselves alive, let alone run this beautiful and complex planet.
We are still living in the tragedy that decision created. And maybe the lies are intensifying and becoming more blatant, as the current wicked system of things on the earth approaches its end. For example, hasn’t “the world” erected a vast smokescreen of Evolution Evolution Evolution to try to stop us from seeing what the first chapters of Genesis are so simply and clearly telling us?
Mark Dunn says
There is no evidence of a second shooter. Lee Harvey Oswald was a sad, disturbed, evil individual. The deep state loves it when we lose focus.
Mark Cornett says
Garrison was completely wrong with just about everything. And Oliver Stone’s movie was complete fiction from beginning to end.
Jeff Bargholz says
Yeah, Stone’s movie was conspiracy theory bullshit from beginning to end but it sure was entertaining. It even had John Candy in a serious role, the only one I ever saw him in.
Robert Hagedorn says
Was Garrison right about the path of the bullet? If not, from where did he get his evidence?
Jeff Bargholz says
I have no doubt that Oswald was the shooter but I also have no doubt that he was put up to it either by the CIA or Mafia.
Algorithmic Analyst says
Well, the thing that gets me, is that the classic scenario in such an operation is to have a patsy who then gets offed, in order to seal off the information flow. Oswald said he was just a patsy, so obviously he knew something, then he got shot by Jack Ruby. I think they had someone out looking to shoot him even earlier 🙂
Mark Cornett says
Robert, there wasn’t a “Reply” button by your question, so I’ll answer it here. Garrison was completely wrong about the path of the bullet, because of the way the two men were seated. Garrison shows them both facing forward, JFK directly behind JBC. Connally was to Kennedy’s left, and was turned slightly to his right when the bullet struck.
Beez says
I have no doubt that Oswald was one of several shooters engaged by the CIA or CIA personnel for the purpose of killing Pres. JFK. LHO was recruited in the USMC by the CIA.
Howard Hunt gave a death bed confession to his son. And he named names of the triggermen who shot JFK from the front. Watch the Zapruder film again. There’s no doubt in my mind, JFK’s fatal wound came from the front.
Sasquatch says
I used to think the same.
But not anymore.
Paul Revere says
I was in gym class playing soccer at White Plains HS in WP NY . It was 11/22/63 the next day was my 16th birthday.
Suddenly the school loudspeaker system was turned on and we all heard Walter Cronkite telling us that the President had been shot in Dallas Texas. He then said the secret service and eye witnesses stated the shots seemed to come from the grassy knoll in front of and on the right of the President’s vehicle.
That was the LAST TIME I HEARD THAT STATEMENT .

Thank you Victoria. Genesis is written as true history – its writers are telling us the truth. And therein lies our hope of a rescue from the lies and horrors of the current system of things on the earth.
‘I myself am convinced that the theory of evolution, especially the extent to which it’s been applied, will be one of the great jokes in the history books of the future. Posterity will marvel that so very flimsy and dubious an hypothesis could be accepted with the incredible credulity that it has.’

W. Layer says
One plausible question has been raised, was Oswald gunning for Connally against whom he had a grudge, and hit Kennedy instead? Enough work has been done on the bullet’s trajectory to confirm Oswald as the killer. Kennedy has enough going against him politically to put he re-election in question. Another question, why eliminate the largely ineffective Kennedy and replace him with the highly effective Johnson “The Master of the Senate”?
Jeff Bargholz says
Kennedy was sitting on a platform Garrison didn’t take that into account.
Tionico says
CORRECTION: Bullets..Plural form.
There is no way possible by any fanciful calculations or sleight of hand that there was only one round fired, OR that rounds were fired from multiple rifles in multiple places. Oswald is said to have used an old Italian military rifle firing the 7.62mm Carcano cartridge. Relatively slow, thus drops steeply. Not a powerful round, relatively speaking, even in 1962. Multiple witnesses testified early on as to shots being fired from radically directions other than from the School book warehouse. Oswald was aledgedly up on the sixth floor, and even at his range the trajectory to the car when hit was fairly steeply downward. Yet multiple impact points of what appear to be one bullet hitting multiple points have some rounds on a trajectory very near horizontal. impossible when that weak slow Caracno is fired from elevation, as it aledgedly was. Then there wereearly reports of multiple hits on Mr. Kennedy from nearly opposite directions, Not even the wonky Carcano round is capable of such shenannigans.

I DO recall pondering the newsreel footage that showed the motorcycle escprts suddenly separating from the lino by some distance, after havong been right on station next the car for the earlier parts of the parade. Didn’t think it was planned at the time, just an nfortunate nxplained cooncidence”. Never done before.. and how rotten the chance that once they pulled away “the shot” was fired and Kennedy was down.
I also later, wndereed why Texas Governor Cinelly never had much to say afterard.. He was RIGHT THERE.

American masochists know that it ain’t rape if you consent; which explains the significant number of legal ballots marked for the Democ-rat candidate in the “free and fair” presidential elections of 2020 and 2024 (a foregone conclusion). To our battered spouse electorate, either a Democ-rat dominates or “our democracy” is lost. Having traded a dime for a nickel, the masochists long ago lost the measure of “our democracy.”
Danimal28 says
I read a book called ‘High Treason’ in 1992 which contained autopsy photo’s of JFK showing a bullet hole in the forehead and the back of his head blown off. This is corroborated in the Zapruder film showing his head whipping backward and Jackie gathering brain matter off the trunk.
The ‘interagency’ has been operating without oversight for many decades leading to the Tonkin Gulf ‘incident’, spying on MLK, organizing color revolutionary tactics within CONUS(Antifa, Weather Underground, Black Panthers, et al.), WMD, cartels controlling the state of Arizona….
Wake up people.
Mark Cornett says
The Zapruder Film clearly shows that the head wound was in the side of JFK’s head, above his right ear, not to the rear. The blood and brain matter went forward, not backward, as would have been the case with the rear of his head being blown out.
Victoria says
If true then why did Jackie reach out backward for the brain matter she retained in her hands til she finally gave it to someone at the hospital? Why did motorcycle cops to the left of the vehicle get hit with blood & brain matter. This is well documented.
Mo de Profit says
To quote my junior school maths teacher “Silence was the stern reply”
Mark Cornett says
Yes, some brain matter went backward. After all, his head exploded. But the Z Film shows clearly the vast majority went forward. There were pieces of skull and blood/brain matter on the SS agents in the front of the car, and on the hood.

For Spencer to give credibility to anything said by Jim Garrison is a gross and shameful error. ON THE TRAIL OF DELUSION: Jim Garrison: The Great Accuser, by Fred Litwin (2020) describes the defects in Garrison’s character that showed him to be utterly untrustworthy.

The lies that’ve been told by the powers that be in DC stretch as far back as the years before the Civil War = and perhaps even earlier than that.

aat least back to the “Whiskey Rebellion” in 1790something. Government’s lies and sorry lame excuses as to WHY they “needed” to tax distilled spirits were legion. And corruption and graft amongst the “revenooers” was almost as common as government lies are today.

In the study of logic and reason there is a fallacy called arguing from authority. Basically, it means accepting the word of a person or persons who are deemed to be experts in the field or who have a high social status etc. In other words, big shots. Examples are members of the Warren Commission and the 51 “intelligence” officials who all said Hunter’s laptop was Russian disinformation. The philosopher who recognized this fallacy must have seen the JFK assassination and the Biden administration coming.

Semaphore says
I was 15 when Kennedy was shot. I must have been 17 when I began doubting the official narrative of the assasination. As a teen, I was a firearms affectionato and had a real interest in milsurp bolt-action rifles. Tons of these were dumped on the market as NATO and Warsaw Pact armies had gone semiauto after WWII, and they could be had cheaply. It was common for sportsmen to buy and convert these into servicable sport rifles. The American Rifleman had a special advice column for those folks, and I read it regularly.
Someone bought the same model rifle Oswald used, and asked advice because he was surprised at just how big a piece of junk it was. The Rifleman told him not to waste his time because the rifle was so poorly made that even the Italian infantry didn’t want it, calling it the gun that never killed anybody. I remember their remark: You can’t improve on a mongrel. Considering that the kill shot was shot downhill at a moving target by a marine who did not distinguish himself as a marksman, it remains to me, shall we say, a matter of reasonable doubt.
Tionico says
Oh the Carcano was accurate enough at closer range, and had quite a bullet drop. If it WORKED it could hit what was aimed for out to maybe 300 metres.
Two other Secind War milsurp rifles that were VERY accurate and relialbe are the 6.5 Swede (6.5 x 55 mm). VERY flat shooting out to 400 yards, and very goot=d out to 600. Lightweight, fast bolt action, and rock solid reliability. I have one manufactrues by the Carl Gustaf works, and another, amusingly enough, by Husqvarna (yes the chainsaw folks). Both dated 1942 oroginal matching.
The other is the 8mm French Lebel. A shorter more tpered and fatter cartridge than the 8mm Mauser, but not quite as powerful (shorter cartridge gave less volume for powder) but was incredibly flat shooting
Of course nothing beat our own venerable 1903 Springfield bolt gun, launching the VERY powerful long=range .30/06 (7.62 x 59) boattaiil spitzer hardball, or any of several soft-point hunting rounds. That aledged Carcano DID to its job but I am convinced it was not the only “barker” in use that day.
RS says
The Zapruder film clearly shows the direction of where the shot came from as JFK is driven back then forward. The first shot was a throat wound. The fatal shot is when the Occipital bone is blown off the back of his head., a large area. Those in Dealy Plaza remember the scene and are no longer here to tell about it. How do you feel about your President being murdered by a mafia-style-hit? Lets hope that justice will some day be implemented. The Warren Commission never presented all the evidence. I don’t blame RFKJr. for wanted truth and Justice for his Uncle and his family.
Tionico says
and one bolt action rifle NEVER could have olaced both those shots as they were placed.. in such rapi succession. Not only the time to rack the bolt for the next round, but to reacquire a moving target afterward is more than even an excellent practiced at the peak of his game marksman could do. And I never read enough to indicate Oswald was that skilled.
Mark Cornett says
The shots were not in rapid succession. No one knows for certain how long the shooting took. But if the first shot was fired at Z frame 160, which is very likely based on the reactions of Kennedy and Connally, then the entire shooting would have been around 8.5 seconds. That would have been plenty of time for Oswald, who did achieve the level of sharpshooter in the marines. And the longest shot he took that day, which was the head shot, was only 88 yards away.
Mark Cornett says
The Z film clearly shows the location of the large head wound. It was in the side of Kennedy’s head above his right ear. His head moved back and to the left because of the blood/brain matter being blasted out the right side. It’s like blowing up a balloon and letting it go. The balloon moves in the opposite direction of the air coming out.
I’ve been to Dealy Plaza twice. The area behind the picket fence, where the Knoll shooter is thought to have been, is close to where Zapruder and other witnesses were standing. A shot from there would have been easy to pinpoint. Several people came forward that very day and told of a rifle in the southeast corner window of the TSBD. Not a soul came forward at the time and told of any other shooter in any other location.
RS says
The lies that have been told about this assassination and who was involved, and the cover up, will be held against people on the judgement day, and believe me, they will be judged harshly. .
RS says
Mrs. Kennedy crawled over, reached up on the back of the Lincoln and grabbed a piece of the President’s skull. The film clearly showed that action. That means there was a bullet trajectory from the front.
Mark Cornett says
The film shows her crawling out of the back of the car, but it doesn’t show her grabbing anything. (I’ve watched a very clear copy of the Z film many times.) She did give a piece of her husband’s brain to one of the doctors in the ER. But his head was in her lap all the way to the hospital. She probably picked it up there. But it doesn’t really matter. I’ll concede the point that she picked it up off the trunk. When JFK’s head exploded, pieces when in all directions. The autopsy photos and x-rays clearly show only a small head wound to the back of his head, and a huge hole on the right side. Had a shot come from the Knoll, he would have been hit on the right side of his head. There’s would either be an exit wound in the back or left side, or a whole bullet still in his brain at the autopsy. There was neither.
