Four years after he was charged by the Justice Department with acting as an “agent of the Iranian government”, Kaveh Afrasiabi appeared on China’s state propaganda CGTN, quoting Iran’s Supreme Leader and warning of “irreparable damage” if Trump were to act against Iran.
“Iran has a lot of naval assets that can come into play,” the Iranian political science professor warned viewers of China’s propaganda machine. Previously Afrasiabi, whom the DOJ complaint stated had “pitched himself to Congress, journalists, and the American public as a neutral and objective expert on Iran”, had appeared on CGTN, to claim that Israel was engaged in an “unprovoked war” and again attacked President Trump for standing up to Tehran.
The strange thing however was not that Afrasiabi, who had been described as having acted as “a secret employee of the Government of Iran and the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations who was being paid to spread their propaganda”, was spreading pro-Iranian propaganda to Iran’s Chinese Communist allies, but that he was still here.
The 2021 indictment stated that, “our arrest of Kaveh Afrasiabi makes it clear that the United States is not going to allow undeclared agents of Iran to operate in our country unchecked.” That went by the wayside two years later when President Joe Biden signed a pardon for Afrasiabi allegedly as part of the administration’s serial hostage deals with enemy nations.
Allowing undeclared agents of Iran to operate in America was now officially Biden’s policy.
Unlike conventional prisoner exchanges, Afrasiabi and two others were not actually expected to leave America. The pardon however was conditioned on Afrasiabi not breaking any further laws and not deriving any financial benefit from any publication about his “situation”.
Had Afrasiabi actually changed?
On Facebook, the academic shared a propaganda video from an agency allied with the Iranian regime hailing its “revenge attacks” on Israel. Afrasiabi celebrated Iran as a “proud nation”.
While Afraisabi’s pardon and that of the 4 other Iranians, three of whom were allowed to remain behind in America, represent an extreme case, the Biden administration had a pattern of enabling Iranian penetration of the United States.
The Biden administration had released an estimated 729 Iranian border invaders into the United States. The Biden administration refused to release information on how many of the Iranian border invaders had appeared on terror watchlists, but we know that by last year, 350 border invaders on the terror watchlist had been intercepted. Unknown numbers of others might have gotten through.
Why did the Biden administration do this? One answer may lie with Biden’s unique ties to the Iran Lobby and to the Iranian regime.
Iran has been at war with the United States for 46 years and Biden had spent 46 years colluding with the enemy terror state. Biden celebrated the Islamic takeover of Ira,n opposed the rescue of American hostages, and called for an end to pro-democracy broadcasts into Iran and for admitting the terror state into the WTO. He had also raised money and headlined an event for the American Iranian Council whose founder had run for the presidency of Iran.
A spokesman for the Student Movement Coordination Committee for Democracy in Iran warned that Biden’s campaigns “have been financed by Islamic charities of the Iranian regime based in California.”
During the 2020 election, Biden’s list of bundlers included Jamal Abdi, the executive director of NIAC Action and the former policy director of the National Iranian American Council, often referred to as the Iran Lobby, and Iran’s IRGC terror hub, which Biden had protected, directly intervened in the election to aid him by running a false flag operation on U.S. voters.
NIAC Action had endorsed Biden and celebrated the election outcome by declaring that, “our long, national nightmare is almost over. AP has called the race for Joe Biden”. Iran’s president cheered Biden’s election win by expressing the hope that “the next American administration will surrender to the Iranian nation.” And indeed, the Iranian regime would not be disappointed.
Once in office, the Biden administration used a former NIAC figure as a “broker and middleman” between “Iran and the Democratic administration.” Biden not only provided Iran with billions in sanctions relief, but riddled his administration with figures who had promoted Iranian agendas.
Ariane Tabatabai, who had been part of an initiative with an Iranian Foreign Ministry think tank and checked in with the enemy organization before testifying to Congress, was allowed to serve as the Chief of Staff to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict. Rob Malley, Biden’s Iran envoy, who would later be investigated for mishandling classified documents after an administration coverup, had his son working at an organization intertwined with the Iran Lobby. The Biden administration spied on Israel’s previous efforts to target Iran and the documents were ‘leaked’ by a Muslim CIA analyst.
By the 2024 election, Iran was actively hacking President Trump’s campaign and leaking materials to the Harris-Walz campaign and the media in the hopes of stopping Trump.
But it didn’t work.
The damage however has been done. Iranian operatives have been allowed free access to the country and to its key institutions. This penetration, especially at the border, goes back to the Obama administration which had blocked and sabotaged a DEA operation exposing Hezbollah and Iran’s drug trafficking operation into the United States.
DEA agents had “traced the conspiracy… to the innermost circle of Hezbollah and its state sponsors in Iran” only to have the Obama administration block charges against the Iranian terror networks including a “central player in a U.S.-based cell of the Iranian paramilitary Quds force.”
Law enforcement now has the opportunity to remove those blocks and bypass some of the Obama and Biden dirty deals that allowed Iran’s agents to operate inside America. But they will have to contend not only with those agents, but also those who treasonously protected them.
As Biden said after 9/11, “this would be a good time to send, no strings attached, a check for $200 million to Iran.” The Obama and Biden administration didn’t send millions, they sent billions, they took in Iran’s agents and elevated them to positions of authority.
And the threat is all around us.
