The judge in Georgia’s most high-profile trial of a former president is a 34-year-old kid who was supervised by the prosecutor who will be bringing the case before him. The media will keep emphasizing that he was appointed by Gov. Brian Kemp, much as it emphasized that the Hunter Biden special counsel was appointed by Trump, but such things are often meaningless in an industry where professional connections matter more.
Judge McAfee, 34, rose quickly in Georgia’s legal world after graduating from law school a decade ago, and one of his first jobs was in the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office. There, he handled early stages of felony cases before being promoted to the complex trial division. The division was led at the time by Fani T. Willis, the prosecutor overseeing the Trump case, according to a former district attorney and another lawyer who worked in the office at the time.
Ms. Willis, who became the district attorney in 2021 after Judge McAfee had left the office, began a wide-ranging investigation of Mr. Trump and his allies regarding the 2020 election that culminated in a grand jury indictment on Monday night.
Convenient.
An inexperienced judge who worked under the prosecutor trying this case. Who was also picked as a U.S. assistant attorney by the U.S. attorney who was forced to quit by Trump over voter fraud claims in Georgia.
Nothing to see here.
“Nothing to see here.” Mr. Greenfield. You forgot the “move along folks” part we are now so familiar with. To coin a phrase, “It’s a small world after all…it’s a small world after all…”
Tony, glad to see your comments here. I was permanently banned from Powerline where I always read your comments because I used a fine old Anglo-Saxon expression to tell an anti-Semitic poster what he was full of and wouldn’t kiss Scott Johnson’s ring to get back on.
Blatant bias in the judicial proceedings against DJT will void his convictions at the appellate court level. Unlike the Deep State, the Supreme Court still speaks in constitutional terms; that is, due process of law is still meaningful. Deep State operatives, like Ron DeSantis, know that. It’s merely the obscene gauntlet of a perverted legal process that’s being inflicting on DJT because there won’t be any actual penalty for crimes. How could there be? The alleged crimes are fictitious.
The only possible consolation is the possibility that he hated working for her. Well, it’s possible.
