The Left is always trying to marry its various causes together like an abusive Bedouin patriarch. How can it combine LGBT and criminal justice reform? What about abortion and shutting down the military? And the two big ones are Islamism and Global Warming?
The proudest exponent of combining Islam and Global Warming in a theological mess was Secretary of State John Kerry.
Wednesday at a ceremony to appoint Texas lawyer Shaarik Zafar to be special representative to Muslim communities, Secretary of State John Kerry said it was the United States’ Biblical “responsibility” to “confront climate change,” including to protect “vulnerable Muslim majority counties.”
“Confronting climate change is, in the long run, one of the greatest challenges that we face, and you can see this duty or responsibility laid down in scriptures, clearly, beginning in Genesis. And Muslim-majority countries are among the most vulnerable. Our response to this challenge ought to be rooted in a sense of stewardship of Earth. And for me and for many of us here today, that responsibility comes from God.”
And now, there’s the threat that Global Warming poses to the Haji.
Climate change-caused increases in heat and humidity could put Muslims making the pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia in “extreme danger,” a new study warns.
This pilgrimage, known as the Hajj, involves several days of activities, including 20 to 30 hours outdoors.
The timing of the Hajj varies. This year, it was Aug. 9 to 14, and next year it will be July 28 to Aug. 2, during the hottest months of summer. The timing exposes participants to the risk of serious health problems during outdoor activities.
Mecca is in Saudi Arabia. It’s in the desert. It’s always going to be hot. We’re talking about temperatures in the 110F range. But it can also pass 100 at any time of the year.
Did I mention it’s a desert climate?
While the media keeps insisting that Global Warming, the thing they believe in as firmly as Muslims believe in Allah, is making things hotter, it’s always been punishingly hot.
Here’s Richard Burton’s description in the 1850s.
We dismounted to gaze at the venerable minarets and the green dome which covers the tomb of the Prophet. The heat was dreadful, the climate dangerous, and the beasts died in numbers. Fresh carcasses strewed our way, and were covered by foul vultures. The Caravan was most picturesque. We traveled principally at night, but the camels had to perform the work of goats, and step from block to block of basalt like mountaineers, which being unnatural to them, they kept up a continual piteous moan. The simoom and pillars of sand continually threw them over.
Clearly, the fault of Global Warming.
