At this point, I’m not sure why anyone would use GoFundMe for a conservative cause. But by now it’s been adequately demonstrated that the company not only hates conservatives, but that it will actively interfere with conservative fundraising, imposing double standards and using every pretext for shutting down conservative fundraisers.
This is just the latest example.
GoFundMe has frozen access to the nearly $4.5 million in funds raised by the trucker convoy now wending its way across Canada toward Ottawa in a protest against vaccine mandates.
“We require that fundraisers be transparent about the flow of funds and have a clear plan for how those funds will be spent. In this case, we are in touch with the organizer to verify that information,” Rachel Hollis, a spokeswoman for the crowdfunding platform, said in an email.
“Funds will be safely held until the organizer is able to provide the documentation to our team about how funds will be properly distributed.”
Properly distributed according to whom? GoFundMe’s crybullies couldn’t find any means of classifying the protest as extremism or medical misinformation, so it went this route.
Has GoFundMe made these demands of the racist black nationalist groups it hosts?
Here’s Melina Abdullah, a bigot, with Black Lives Matter LA, a racist hate group, whose “protest” terrorized the Jewish community and led to the vandalism of synagogues, explaining that there isn’t much of a plan for its GoFundMe cash.
Some questions have recently come around how funds are being spent. To be honest, until the last month, we had received relatively little in donation support, and had to significantly augment our work with funds from the pockets of volunteers. To be clear, to date, BLMLA has been powered by volunteers. No one earns a salary. We do this work because we see it as our “sacred duty.”
With the murder of #GeorgeFloyd, people have been extremely generous and we have received more donations in the last month than we had in the entire seven years of our existence.
So what have we done with the recent donations? This movement-moment has been intense. Some of the recently received funds have been used for basics, like: 1) modest support to the families of those killed by police, 2) materials for protests, rallies, demonstrations, and events, 3) tech support/upgrades, 4) security, 5) food for gatherings and mutual aid, 6) interns, and 7) transportation for families and volunteers. The vast majority of funds have not been spent and are being held by our fiscal agent (a non-profit 501c3). As the intensity of the moment begins to slow, we will develop a thoughtful and deliberate plan for those funds, which includes infrastructure development.
We’ll develop a plan. Not a problem for GoFundMe.
Conservatives should not use GoFundMe for fundraisers unless they want this to happen to them and should not donate to fundraisers over GoFundMe. If there’s a cause or person you want to support, ask if you can send a check or e-payment of some sort directly.
