The socialist playbook is as familiar as it is tedious to watch being replayed in real-time. Lefties claim to have learned their ideology from a theory of history, but history is the one thing they never learn a single thing from.
No matter how recent the history may be.
Paying for minimum wage hikes by printing money doesn’t actually work. That 40% minimum wage hike comes as the buying power of Venezuelans can drop by 50% in one month. The socialist regime keeps printing money and inflation keeps skyrocketing. A 30,000% inflation rate by the end of 2018 is a conservative estimate. More liberal estimates peg it at 200,000%. And then the sky’s the limit.
Is Venezuela’s finance minister out of his mind? No, he’s a leftist. So he believes inflation doesn’t exist.
Luis Salas is the perfect man to head up the economies of Venezuela or California. He’s a sociologist who claims that, “Inflation does not exist in real life.”
Venezuela’s economy also doesn’t exist in real life.
Minister Salas claims that inflation isn’t caused by printing infinite amounts of money, but by corporate conspiracies. So the worse the inflation gets, the more the corporations must be conspiring to cause it.
“When a person goes to a shop and finds that prices have gone up, they are not in the presence of ‘inflation,’” Minister Salas insisted.
Venezuela’s socialist government made sure that ‘greedy’ farmers and businesses wouldn’t be able to raise prices by pegging product prices below the cost of production. The products are paid for with socialist funny money while farmers and businesses have to import products for real money.
So there’s no food.
Remember when we used to make fun of socialists doing this kind of thing abroad? That’s before it showed up in America.
Biden on Wednesday asked Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan to examine oil and gas companies and their role in rising gasoline prices.
Citing “potentially illegal conduct,” Biden said pump prices are rising even as industry costs are declining.
“Usually, prices at the pump correspond to movements in the price of unfinished gasoline,“ Biden wrote in a letter to Khan. “But in the last month the price of unfinished gasoline is down more than 5 percent while gas prices at the pump are up 3 percent.”
“I do not accept hard-working Americans paying more for gas because of anti-competitive or otherwise potentially illegal conduct,” the president wrote. He asked Khan to “bring all of the commission‘s tools to bear if you uncover any wrongdoing.”
Biden is citing the price of gasoline… even as he and his leftist allies are directly conspiring to raise prices by…
1. Threatening to end “fossil fuels” and imposing new regulations aimed at doing so. Targeting an industry this way is a sure means of introducing instability, raising legal and regulatory costs, and thereby raising prices.
2. Biden’s leftist allies are pressuring funds and institutions to divest from energy companies in favor of corrupt Big Green schemes that reward their backers.
…and, oh yes…
3. Wrecking the entire economy
Blaming oil and gas companies for rising prices at the pump might be more tenable if prices weren’t rising across the board.
As it is, Biden is cynically hoping that Americans will stop blaming him and start blaming corporate conspiracies for high prices. That isn’t likely to happen when people see shortages and high prices everywhere they look. This socialist garbage isn’t even working at the media level.
Biden is lying and flailing, and even in the throes of an economic disaster his political allies created and are actively profiting from, is trying to direct the blame at their economic rivals with the intent of further undermining our economy and to raise prices even more on Americans in order to benefit his Big Green donors.
